How do you waterproof Summit Seats?
 

Well of course it happened.

It rained on Friday in Michigan and just as predicted, my seat got wet underneath my umbrella (torrential downpours at times).

Seat stayed wet until Sunday morning.

Why aren't these water-proof from the beginning?
(I should have bought the Ol'Man Climber with the "net" seat...doesn't stay wet for long).

Even with my gortex rain pants, I could still feel the dampness from the seat.
Had to wear the rain pants, which are a lot noiser than my bowpants until Sunday.

How do I water-proof the Summit seat without destroying the fabric and smelling it up like all hell?


Saw (1) doe with (2) button bucks on Saturday morning and (1) doe with (1) button buck on Saturday evening...that's all. I did not shoot. All deer passed within 2 yards of my stand!!!

Orion, you could spray it with Hunt Dry. It has an odor, but it will go away after 2 or 3 days. So you'd need to spray when you have some time to let it air.

Just a thought,and not sure if the stuff stinks or not but i'd try Sno Seal,or some other heavy oil type sealant.It might hold up longer than Camp Dry,or other spray ons.Of course one could always have a custom seat cover made for it,can't believe it would be very costly.

The official reply from Summit is either ScotchGuard or they suggested that I bring a garbage bag with me to wrap my seat in.

Don't they think we have enough to bring with us and think about?

Now, I just spent $270 on this stand and they suggest a garbage bag?
Come on...I am very dissappointed.

If I can send this stand back to Cabela's, I am going to!!!

Your decision, but sounds sorta' foolish. Any foam seat you get wet will hold the moisture, and any foam seat will be more comfortable and durable over time than a net seat.

Something to look into is NikWax brand waterproof products. They make various products for multiple substances/applications. Their waterproofing supplies accompany almost anyone who has/had trekked up Mt. Everest---yeah, the stuff is that good. It is simply a wax polymer that forms a protective seal---water beads up and runs off in rivers.

I use a NikWax leather/synthetic waterproofer for my boots (one designed for Gore-Tex), and they make one specifically for tents and bags that could be used for seats.

The only obstacle is you will probably have to go to a camping/hiking store to find the stuff, but it's well worth the $$. A single bottle will cost you about $8.

I haven't really thought about waterproofing my stand. I would rather sit in a wet Summit than a dry net.

I usually carry my stand in and out with me every time I go.
