Archery for small game?
 

Anyone here good enough to hunt small game with a bow?
I was tempted to take a shot at a very large partridge (standing perfectly still) the other day.
I'm a newbie so I'm wondering if its even worth the effort, or if some of you are succesful.
If you take these shots would you use a field tip or broadhead?

I've taken some squirrels with my recurve-alot of fun.I use arrows that I'm not concerned about breaking,because you will break some and I use Magnus small game heads.They're pretty devastating on small critters.I don't shoot up into the trees-I'll wait til I find one on the ground.Tried hunting rabbits with my curve,but that didn't work out to well.

shoot squirrels and i use field points with spings called grasshoppers lots of fun and lots of shooting. have at it ,you will be surprised at how well it helps in your yardage guesses

Small game hunting is great. I shoot a longbow and went squirrel hunting a few times with it. This'll be my second season of hunting, but the first time I tried for squirrels. One of the things that makes squirrels so interesting is that they're so fast! It's not just a matter of whether you can hit them or not, but you've to hope they don't move before the arrow gets there. For squirrel sized game I like field points for penetration reasons. I want the arrow to penetrate the squirrel, but not pass through. It'll make it harder for the squirrel to get away. It can't run up a tree and into a hole, or into thick brush that I can't get into with an 29" arrow sticking out its side. If I used a broadhead I'd be afraid it'd cut it up too much and pass through. If the squirrel ran far it'd be hard to find. If the game is the size of woodchucks I think I might want a broadhead. As stated already, it's good for guessing yardages, but also good as a confidence builder. If you can hit squirrel size game consistently, then you know you can hit deer sized game even easier. Taking my first squirrel really deepened my appreciation for wildlife. They're good eating too. Whether a squirrel, partridge, or any other huntable critter, if you're willing to clean and eat it, it'll definitely be worth it.

use judos and you dont have to bring a lot of arrows. I hunt chip munks with them and have only lost one arrow. It was a stupid shot that was uphill and went for quite a ways in really really thick prickers.

I've been throwing around the idea of the flu-flu feathers. But I haven't talked myself into it yet. I too have used the judo points with the spring arms, they're nice because they don't penetrate the flesh and they stand up in the grass.
Every time I'm in my treestand the squirrels drop stuff on me and make fun of me. They bark and laugh and say "You won't see any deer, your to stupid! Bark! chatter!" Maybe I will get some of those and keep them with my broadheads just for Mr. acorn breath. DIE BUSHYTAIL!
