Question about carbons breaking in Deer
What happens if i shot a deer and do not get a pass through with my carbon express terminators. If the arrow breaks than wont it send slivers all over the chest cavity and meat. Will it ruin the meat.

RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
I had that exact senario happen 3 weeks ago. CE 3D Select 300's, when the deer took off running, the shoulder blade snapped the arrow inside the deer. The shaft had a very, very, clean break. By exmaining both arrow sections, no splintering had occured. Other carbon shafts may break/splinter differently. The shoulder blade also bent the muzzy 3 blade/100gr so it was unuseable (a $13+ shot total ). Muzzy went through the heart and was poking out the skin, good blood trail , deer went 125 yards, very, very little meat damage. :)

RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
All clean breaks I have seen with carbons. I have heard if it does happen your are suppose to wash and remove any meat around the site that might be tainted, but not sure if this right!

RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
I say HORSESPIT! I shot one friday and the arrow broke, couldnt have made a cleaner break with a saw!No carbom fragments or anything. If ya double lung em, theres no meat loss no matter what.

RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
I have heard that they will splinter, but my friend shot a doe last week, and the arrow broke in 2 places, both clean breaks.

RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
I shot a buck last year with terminator clean break no problem.
year before shot a buck with a skinny carbon not a clean break but also no splinters in the wound area. But both were heart shots& both went 125 yards. |
RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
If the arrow brakes, who cares if you made the kill- even at $13bucks it's cheaper than buying fresh meat at the store and you still get credit for the kill- price of admission. I trim all my kills out with a 30yr old 6" fillet knife anyway so I'm not going to keep any meat that doesn't look like I should keep it(I take my time and look at all the meat).
My only bitch about carbon arrows- is their lack of mass weight. I want an arrow that weighs more than 550-600grns for a hunting arrow anyway. I shoot full length(un-trimmed)2018s with 125grn Zwickey 2blade Eskimos- they weigh out at 570grns- just right- more mass- more impact- better kill... ![]() ![]() CaptJack Be a better Hunter - Get a better Shot |
RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
I have taken about 20 to 25 deer & elk with carbon arrow and have blowed through all of them and pulled the arrow out of the ground but, the one last year that was my frist one first to brake my carbon arrow when it on the exit shot through the baddle bone about ten inchs and broke when the 200 lb + buck took of and ran 30 yards and droped dead. Once I shot a buck at 30 yards and the 365 gr. carbon arrow went through both shoulder blades, had holes through both paddle bones and stuck in the ground. They will if you don't blow through them brake of clean. Most of the time they will blow through.

RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
A buddy of mine laughed when I told him I shot carbon arrows and he said that if they break they will ruin the tissue. So, I said, you eat the lungs...?

RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
I had a Game Tracker carbon break off in a big doe a couple weeks ago. Again, very clean break with no residue. I believe carbons of today are better than when first introduced.

RE: Question about carbons breaking in Deer
Maybe when carbons were fresh on the market there were issues, But I've broken a few off and always cleanly.
