10 to 2

You always hear in magazines about people taking their biggest bucks between 10 and 2. Does anyone believe there is any truth behind that. Cause where I hunt the deer normally stop moving at about 9:30 in the morning.

I'm more of a morning and evening guy but a friend of mine has several on his
wall that he killed at midday. I guess I should try it more!

Every big buck I have ever killed has been between 12 and 1.

There are more big bucks killed during that time per capita than any other time. Now, there aren't as many hunters in the woods then, so the nubers are a little misleading. It only makes sense, to me anyway. We all know deer pattern us. Most people, not all, but most, leave the woods around 10 or so for lunch. Back in stand by 2 or 3 for the evening. The deer know this as well.

I also believe the bucks rest for a while in the morning after chasing and breeding all night. After the does go to bed, somewhere around 9 or 10, the bucks get up and cruise doe bedding areas looking for a hot doe.

That's my theory anyway. Take it or leave it. ;)

My wife logged 84 sightings in 15 watches between 9 and 3, with a buck sighting almost everytime, best was 3 bucks at 12:30.

We pretty much hunt these hours over anything else and see our best bucks as well. If I only had a choice of this time or or morning and eve. I would take the mid-day hours everytime, the log book is great to use year to year.

I'm usually a morning and night guy myself as well ,I've heard this before ,so maybe I ought to try it ,but I have seen many deer later in the season just after the rut moving at those hour's ,but i haven't tried hunting at this time.Maybe I should rethink my strategy.

The older, smarter deer will move during that time because they have observed hunters leaving the woods around 1030 or 1100 and sense the presence of danger is decreased during that time.

I definitely believe it, I've never hunted those times, but I believe it! We plan on sitting all day next Saturday (YAY!) for season gun opener! :D

I like your theory myself. We have taken bucks around 11am to 12pm.Don't usually have luck much later than that.It usually is the bucks that are moving.Atleast that's what I've noticed too rookie13815.

It's true. I have heard of more people taking big deer in that time period. I think some of it is due to pressure from other hunters moving around to get lunch or stretch their legs.

I started doing the dark-to-dark vigils a couple years ago. While I DID see deer in the middle of the day, I still saw the most activity in the early morning and late afternoon periods.

This year, it's been so dang warm here that the deer are only moving in the first or last 1/2 hour of daylight. I've sat from dark to after 1pm this week and saw nothing once it warmed up. If it would cool off, that would help, but the 10 day forecast show more of the same.

I believe it. I am going to start doing it more. This morining I decided to stay until midday and saw a NICE buck at 10:30. I usually would be discouraged by this time but I know better now.
