Sit and wait, or not??
 

For the last 3 days, I have been in stand from sun up to sun down. People, I have not seen a single deer. I haven't hunted the same stand twice, the wind has been perfect, my approach to the stand is good, I even walk a longer distance to make the entry right. I have tracks, rubs, scrapes, you name it, I have deer sign everywhere. They have finally vaccumed the forest floor of most of the acorns, with the exception of one white oak. This tree just started dropping the other day, and the deer are tearing them up, at night I presume.

The down side here is the weather. It has been almost 80 here for a couple of days with high winds. I guess that's the problem. I am sure I don't do everything to perfection, I make mistakes I know, but I should still be seeing a deer here and there.

I know I can't kill one sitting on the couch, but hey.....I can't kill what I don't see either. What would you do, keep sitting, or try something else?

Go back and see what is moving around when that temp drops. I'm not saying not to go out till than, but the deer sightings are about to go through the roof with the temp drop mixed in with the pre-rut/rut.

Sounds like their pattern has changed for sure. Not knowing where you hunt or the type of woods it is hard to give advice. I know when I don't see any deer for a few hunt's something has got them spooked. That is why I try to hunt with a buddy. Usually if one don't see anything the other one did and your hopes stay up. If you have another spot or it is a big patch of woods i would move on for awhile.

Dont feel bad. I cant remember when I saw a deer at my current stand. There are scrapes and rubs and my mock scrape had had attention but no brown. It sure does get discouraging but I keep going on saying today may be the day. Good luck to you!

If possible maybe you could get you a trail camera and see when their coming in their.I bought one from Wal-Mart for $100 and it has been a very useful tool.I've been in similar situations and after putting the trail camera up in the area I'vefound out their moving in that particulararea at night.Then I try and find where their moving in the daylight areas.A trail camera may not be a option for youbut I just thought i'd mention it.

You might want to try more speed scouting and not on stand as much. Three days and no deer! Even though there's lots of sign I would locate the deer. Even if you spook some they will be back.

I would sit on that oak thats dropping those acorns. Sooner or later those deer are going to hit that tree up in the morning or evening. Its has to be the heat that is keeping them down.

I haven't actually hunted in about a week, but the deer I had been seeiing almost every evening in my pasture haven't been there for about 6 days now. I know they're still around, but they've changed their pattern a bit. My guess is the bucks have found a few receptive does and movement will be at a minimum for the next couple days. The acorns here are everywhere. It's hard to decide where to hunt because, one place looks just as good as another lol.
