This wind is killing me!
The wind in NW MO has been killer this week. It seems like every chance I get to go out it is blowing 15-20 mph. Do deer even move with it blowing like that?
Am I looking at this wrong, or should I just stay home on those days? |
RE: This wind is killing me!
Go to open woods or low areas deer like to be where they can see when it is windy. Yes they move in the wind, they live in the outdoors. I seen the biggest buck ever on a windy rainy day.

Watch the weather for theend of that front. It seems to me that the more wind the more "nervous" the deer are...and the tougher it is for me to "listen" to the woods. A deer ison edge enough without all the noise in the woods from the wind. Of course....if you stay home then the biggest buck in the woods will climb up into your standand take a nap!

RE: This wind is killing me!
My experience has been that if its windy, say 15-25mph or more, deer movement is very minimal. When i was younger, i would go out and sit regardless, but now i normally stay in if its going to be 20 mph winds. Not only do deer have problems with one of thier most important senses of hearing, but hunters have a tough time hearing as well with all the wind. Plus you have to be extra careful of limbs and stuff falling from trees. We have 20 and 30 mph winds predicted the next 2 days here in Indiana, temps are in the 70's as well. Just in time for the rut.[:@] I plan on using tomorrow as a day to scout a new woods i got permission on for firearms season, probably will wait till Sat AM before i go bowhunting again.
