I don't think it is a mean face as much as a tired face. I know that by the time I get a deer out of the woods, I'm ready to check it in drop it off at the butcher and take a nap. Usually photo ops don't come until I've just dragged it out of the woods or stopping by the house on the way to the butcher.

I can usually muster up a smile. And even if I didn't smile it still wouldn't be one of those "I am big and tuff" faces.

I'll have smiles for miles when I'm finally holding some heavy horns like that one James. Makes it all worth it.

Once again Rack-attack nice buck my good man.

How about that tail gate photo of Mike Beatty? The trophy to end all trophies too. At least he was smiling big when he was shaking hands with one of the official scorers. I guess by then he realized what he had to be thankful for; who knows.

I always smile in my deer pictures too. Some guys just don't smile though, sometimes it makes them feel like a moron or make them look soft. I know a few guys who've hardly ever smiled in any picture they've taken. Me, on the other hand, always smile in deer pictures especially!

My mind belongs to my work...
My heart belongs to my family...

But my soul...belongs to the woods.

James, here are a few tips for next time:

1. Clean the blood off the deer

2. Don't ride him, he's not a pony.

3. Pay attention to your backdrop. A shot with the trees as a backdrop and no truck in the background would be more appealing.

4. Move away from the tree, the limbs in the foreground distract the viewers eyes.

5. Center the camera lower, the animal is cut off at the bottom and there is more headspace than necessary.

I realize that somebody else obviously took this picture but if you are conscious of the elements of your picture I think you will be amazed at how much better they will turn out.

Good tips, Cabelas4Toys, I have been our "camp photographer" since 1987 and I catch a lot of kidding every year about taking the time to set the picture up properly. The time spent is well worth it when you look back some years later. Thanks again for the tips...Fletch

I would love to be part of a team such as Realtree, Primos/Mossy Oak, or something like that. But I think anyone would. If you know people, hook me up!

I think you look a little goofy in both pictures. And you probably look even worse when you aren't smileing. But the deer! Wow. I'm only kidding about you. Congratulations! terry

NYBOWHUNTER11,

I'm from Northwest Wisconsin. I hunt out of Douglas County. We own and manage 200 acres there. But that's not the only land we hunt. And not all of the deer that we take are from our land. (just incase someone has something to say along the lines of, "oh they own that much land, of course they can shoot big deer") I hunt every moment I can. I hunt a lot of the time before I go to school in the mornings, and when I'm done with school....I come home, eat quick then get back out there. Until I take a big one. If that means I hunt every night until December 31'st, that's fine. I love hunting. I'm working on a pretty nice deer right now....so hopefully I'll have more pictures for you guys soon.

I have some pictures with me smiling and some are me looking a little tired. I know I would have a big cheesey grin if I killed a monster though, but until my area here in Georgia gets them I will just go with what I am feeling at the moment. I usually take several pictures of my kills and try to post the best one.

Another thing , I like the natural look in James V's pictures. I don't clean the bucks blood off either, don't clean the brush out of the way, if I am in the woods I just take a picture. This is deer hunting, not a modeling magazine.

Now that's more like it! Nice picture. And nice deer in both pics by the way.

I agree with you, I don't know why anybody wouldn't be grinning from ear to ear after taking a trophy like that. I hope to have some trophy pictures of my own to post this season. I'll be the one smiling.

James, James, James. Silly little hunter. Now I realize that you're taking Cabelas4toys advice but he missed out on a few most important part. ANY pic with deer as you show here need to have a DeerThug in them. Since I'm in IL it won't take me long at all to respond to your location.

Seriously, outstanding deer and attitude too. Good job.

You guys make me ill...

I take a 125# doe and am smiling like I won the lottery.

I don't think a pro camer man could get a shot of me if I whacked a monster tail like one of those pictured on this thread!!!

Don't get me wrong, I've taken my share of small bucks but I'm just not quite in the right area for the 130+ racks!!!

still holding out hope for this year though - just like last year when I didn't fill my tag... Ho hum - nice smiles

Aim small miss small

Getting a little tired of looking at your goofy smile. You sure do get the deer and they are beauties. I'm not jealous-----much. Think you could leave a couple of deer in the woods so the rest of us can scare them away. I have never even seen one that looks like your last post. I've prayed and begged and pleaded to the forest gods with no results. Am thinking of sacrificing a goat or some chickens. Do you do voodoo? terry

NC, that's a nice eight. Pretty sure I'd be smiling too. I'm smiling the moment I get in the tree.
