NEW BOW HUNTER

this is my first year bowhunting and just recently i had a shot at a little 8 point. i told my dad and he couldn't believe i didn't shoot him. i know there is some bigger bucks there(130-140) if i am new should i take the 8 pointer?

Welcome to the Board! I am new to bowhunting as well. I say sling all you can at what you can until you get your first one. HAHA. I have not got a shot yet, but am still trying.

depends on how often you see these 130-140 class bucks and how productive the woods are... an eight point is a nice buck for a first deer but if you are pretty confident in the big ones coming around go for em!

Welcome aboard, and in regards to your question. My advice is simple, I've probably said it a thousand times. Shoot what makes you happy. You'll evolve as a hunter as the seasons go on and on over the years. Best of luck, be safe and enjoy.

Do what you think is right. I would at least try to shoot a doe in case the big bucks never materialize. Everytime you draw that bow and fire at an animal you'll learn from the experience. Welcome to the board.

My view points: 1) First deer with bow, take anythingas long as its not a spotted fawn IMO and 2) You can't eat antlers !!! Enjoy the season and good luck...

Welcome to the board! When I first started bow hunting, I passed on every young buck and every doe for the first 4 years. I had numerous oportunities but never took the shot. The only reason I never took a shot at does was because I only bought one either sex tag and didn't want to "waste" it on a doe. Looking back, I wish I would have been buying 2 tags, 1 either sex and 1 buck tag because I had plenty of opportunites during all those seasons. I would say, depending on how many 130-140 class bucks you see in your area, don't taken him unless there's not common. BUT, since you're new, you might just have to bend the rules a bit...depends on your philosophy.
