What exactly is a persimmon tree? I'm from Wisconsin and I don't think I have ever heard of it.

Deer candy for sure. I make jelly out of them. Man, is it GOOOOOOD!! Just make sure they are ripe.......wow.....they will make you pucker.

What is a persimmon tree? Well, it is a wild fruit tree. They are pretty unmistakable, even without fruit on them. The bark is very dark in color, and sectioned off in almost perfect squares with deep grooves. When you see one, you will always know them when you see them. They bloom and set fruit in the spring, though not every year. This year seems to be a boomer for them. They start off green, and as they ripen they turn a deep, dark orange. You can smell them walking in the woods. They are also one of the first trees to loose leaves in the fall, making the fruit easier to see. Some trees loose them early, others late. I know of quite a few of these trees in my woods, and some are completely empty already. 2 others look just like the one pictured. I don't know why. But, if you find them, the deer will be there. Just like candy to a kid.
