I live in Southern MN, not to many large tree stands around here so thats what i really want to do. The way i see it is that most people want to do what they cant do already. Thats all I do is hunt over fields and in small 5-10 acre groves. So i would love to try to hunt a big stand of trees.

i like fields at he very beginning, then switch to the woods i think itis easier to get deer in woods when the rut is on.

stand overlooking a field. You don't have to worry about shooting lanes, and getting to your stand is much quieter.

If I'm gun hunting I like to hunt over a field, if bow hunting I love the woods. Give me a small creek running through it and I'm in heaven.

Woods all the way. That's where all the big bucks are. For Sure.

Personally, woods over a field anyday. Fields have their own time during the season, but 99% of the time an oak ridge or hardwood bottom will attract deer.

woods...for sure hunted the feilds w a bow a couple o times. they have too much area to roam. in the woods I usually put up on the trail and I know just how far away they are going to be.

ORIGINAL: Phade

I'm in farm country, so I have little choice in the matter. If I'm "in the woods" it means a field is nearby almost anywhere.

That said, I'm all about edge cover. The edge is where I'll harvest the most of my bucks during archery. I'll move into the deeper woods during gun season, as the bucks will move a bit more in the heavier cover with the increased pressure.
ditto but small secluded fields work well for gun hunting.

I've hunted both and have seen activity in both. I prefer the woods, but I'll hunt wherever I can find a place.
