How to hunt Hardwoods?
 

Need some help. When I lived in IL, it was easy to hunt. Find a field, treeline and a creek - hang a stand.

Now, I just moved to the mountains of East TN and am hunting the Cherokee Forest, all heavily forested land. What's the best tactic to use here? There are no open fields! How do I identify feeding and bedding areas? Should I hunt ridges or saddles?

My best guess is to still hunt about 50 yards down off a ridge or up from the valley bottom, working parallel to the ridge, walking into the wind.

I would start at the tops of the ridges, you should catch deer moving on the tops, into their feeding and bedding area's. Also try to locate a water source back off about 30 yards or so and wait. Good luck

Where are you hunting at On Cherokee? I hunted up there alot last weekend and got some good scouting in. If you are going in at Moody road, I can tell you a couple of spots to try...

I hunt west of Erwin at Hwy 107.
Where is Moody Rd? Elizabethon? Shure could use some help.
