spikes?

what is opinion on spikes? do you let them walk or take them out as genetically inferior deer? I would like to hear from someone with some deer management experince. I have seen 2 different deer this year that are spikes w/ brow tines-8-10 inch spikes. will these deer grow to be trophy deer someday or are they doomed to be small racked deer?

RE: spikes?

Given time to grow, spikes will become trophy bucks withing 3-4 years without doubt.....

RE: spikes?

There have been several studies done where deer that were initially spikes turned out to be 180+ deer by the time they were 4 years old. Just because a deer is s pike isn't any indication that he will always be a spike or even that he is gentically inferior.
