Bob, I'm glad to hear you were not hurt. I agree that the extra time to put on and properly setup a harness is a smallinconvenience compared to the possibilities.

One thing to check is the manufacturers information on the harness. I've seen quite a few that suggest replacing the harness after a fall. Alot of the harnesses have the break-away straps to help absorb some of the shock from the fall. Once those are broken the harness should be replaced.

Glad you're ok. Harnesses are a must and should be on the top of the equipment list. Well, maybe just under bow and arrows. :D

You certainly avoided critically injuring yourself and you sure could have died. What testimony to safety harnesses. What some people just don't realize is that you can break your neck even from a five feet fall. I know a guy who was sitting on a fence. He fell backwards and is now paralized for life. Not clear to me what broke. The strap or hook. Was one of them defective?.............dabow

OMG first of all glad you are around and well to tell the story. I have had 2 falls myself without a harness and thank god I am here to tell you about it. The first was when one of my screw in steps pulled out and luckly the next step caught the belt on my pants. The next and last I hope was when I was steping out of my stand to my ladder the stand shifted and to the ground I went. Again I was shaken and sore but other wise fine. I never sit in my stand with out a safty harness but the problem I see is going up and down they just don't make any real useable climbing strap. If any one has heard of and used one please let me know. and again glad to hear your o.k. now get a big one. Mike

I use a harness too and would feel naked up a tree without it. :D

In 25 years of bowhunting, I've never needed my safety belt or the harness I now use, but it's like insurance. You hope you never need it, but want it there just in case you do.

Glad you're OK.

Awesome story and testimony! Here's another "glad you're ok"... and an even "gladder" that you took the time to write it; I've been trying to get a buddy who brags he doesn't wear anything while in his stand to come to his senses... if not for his sake, for his wife's and little daughter's.
