They also don't realize the sheer size of the King Ranch. To put it in some perspective for them, let's justput it this way... The King Ranch is approx.825,000 acres, nearly 1300 square miles.... Larger, in fact, than the entire State of Rhode Island.

So, if it's unethical to hunt the King Ranch, it's unethical to hunt in Rhode Island.

Wow, this is pretty crazy. I never thought this would turn into a Texas vs the world debate. I have nothing against TX or how you hunt down there, I guess I've always thought people should tend to their own gardens and not worry about their neighbors. There are plenty of things wrong w/ SD, I don't need to worry about TX. I'm sure you are all big boys down their and can take care of yourselves.

Just for the record, I'd hitchhike if I had to from SD to get a free hunt on the King Ranch!!!!!

I agree Dubs. The only thing I have said about the way other folks hunt was "sitting on your butt in a treestand". And for the record I do that myself some, when I can find a tree! I don't think it is lazy or unethical, it's just not real effective where I hunt.

I just get tired of everytime the word "Texas" is mentioned someone has to crack off about how there isn't a single redeeming value to any kind of hunt in the whole state. Texas, like any other place, has good and bad. I know a 17 year old kid who spent 3 YEARS hunting a specific buck. When he finally got it it scored 206. And that deer was as natural as it gets. Alot of the guys on this board would have passed out hiking the canyons he did. But I can promise you that if I had posted that pic some self-appointed guru would have said his daddy bought it for him in some pen where he just had to pull the trigger. 'Cause after all it was in Texas. I just wish people would get their facts straight before spreading crap.

You notice I haven't commented on peoples opinions of baiting, shooting out of truck windows, etc. Thats because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. What I have taken exception to is putting me, my family, my friends, and neighbors in the category of slob hunters because of where we live, when the person making the comment has no idea how we hunt, or the ethics we have. And not only that, but has no interest in even finding out the truth. Bottom line is it doesn't really matter anyways. Down here, we know the truth.

Absolutley without question!!! The Texas bashers know not of what they speak. I've only been here a year but it has been a great experience thus far. I don't plan on staying here but sorry Arthur, I'll be back to hunt every year!

RE: Would you take a free hunt at King Ranch?

My sis at the age of 14 won a free hunt in TX on a huge ranch. She went and hunted 1 day than said she would not kill a deer that way.She stated 20 to 25 deer came to the feeded she set on.She allso said it was like killing a cow at the feedder. She set in a HUGE set house with windows, stove.and even a spot to lay down if to tired to hunt.Than on the 1st day a very nice buck came in and she was told not to shoot it.That it was not a buck they wanted to remove from the heard. This was all for a TV show.Set up to tell all about this ranches hunting.Well gess what they did not even put any of the things she said on the air.

I know many people will say how she had a chance in a life time. Well gess what they are roung. My sis has now killed 4 nice deer 3 with the gun 1 bow kill. She learned how to hunt and was not handed the deer.so here 1st 2 bucks where little.but her last 2 where very nice deer. One scored 140 the 2nd was even nicer just over 150.

I would hunt the ranch if they just let ME go hunt it and not make me set in a HOME or hold my hand.

I am going to hunt TX this year.I am hunting where no one will say crap about what one to shoot.I cant walk up on a feed [there is no feeders] and shoot some cow .And when I see a house I will be sleeping in it not hunting out of it.

Just so some people know I have killed 5 deer over 170 with my bow.So I do not shoot nubs.

I allso would not hunt for elk on indain land. Allthough the elk are not drawn to feeders, you cant drive your ttruck around looking for them.

And for feeder being just like fields. How nuts.feeder 30 foot feeding spot.fields are some times MILES long.Where I live the hole field yealds food not just 30 foot.

Elk, that is my point exactly. There are places like that in Texas. There are also places that rival the best free range hunting that can be found anywhere for any price. The point is it is up to the hunter to decide what is for them. I just don't like being categorized by someone who doesn't even know how I hunt.

You are right Critr-gitr

There is people every where that will take the eazy way out.No difrant for some guy driving around for 5 days up here in MT to kill his elk.

TX has some real nice land for hunting.Every where I go I like to hunt the more open spots with roleing hills. With tons under brush. It takes a good hunter to ground kill any animal here.

I do not think that all of TX is high fenced penned raised deer. I did however say no to the free hunt. I do not think I would enjoy that kind of hunting............

The problem I have with Texas and the "Texas syle" of hunting is the attitude out of the state and the pioneering of the "paid hunt". I also have problems with the emphasis on the size of the buck that TX seems to hang it's hat on.

Money my friends will be the death to hunting as we once knew it and Texas has has a big influence in it IMO. Texans stands strong on "It's bigger and better in Texas" and prove it in the size deer the have and the size of the Ranches thay have.If it is a way of life down there to hunt the way the do, that's fine. I just hope and pray that the emphasis on the monster buckand it's associtation with the almighty dollar does not continue to spread throughout the rest of the United States. It has to stop sometime, or else you have to be very wealthy in order to afford to hunt.

Remember when it was simple?? [&o]
