Seeing More Deer.....beside the road.
 

It may seem a little morbid but one of the biggest signs I look for to signal the beginning of the rut is the increased sighting of dead deer by the road. Locally I've seen a sudden increase of dead deer by the roads. All but one has been does, the one buck was a spike. I did see one cow horn alive next to the interstate. Not sure if this is the doe groups breaking up in preparation for rut or does running off their young'uns. Usually this happens much closer to the rut though. Local biologists are saying it's due to deer looking for food. Not sure of that, there's a huge acorn crop this year. Anyone else seeing more roadside deer?

I've definately noticed more roadkill. And I've been seeing more deer on the sides of the roads in the evenings and early mornings.

same here.....it makes me mad because people won't let you hunt and then you have to watch these deer die one by one[:-].....oh well

Yes unfortunetly this is a good indicator thatdeer are on the move. I'm seeing numerious road kills in the last week! Thistakes place along the same section of roadway every yearat this time in my area.[&o]

The highway I hunt a deer only gets hit on maybe once a year, and twice on the road on the other side. The deer are either smart about roads, or it could be less density of them here in eastern MA. I also dont see em alot:(but this is the only hunting I kno so it aint that frustrating. But I will tell ya when i see a dead deer on the side of the road i get AMPED, kinda sick eh

Here in Iowa the roadkill numbers go up as the corn crops and bean fields get picked. A lot of it happens when the combines are moving through the fields, the deer run to escape right into the front bumper of a passing vehicle. Then once the crops are picked the road kills are usually near spots where timber and bedding on one side and the cut fields on the other. When driving to my hunting grounds at night, I usually drive around 45 mph which drives the locals crazy. But too many times, I have had people pass me and give me the bird and then within a mile I see them on the side of the road with a deer hood ornament. Always stop to make sure they're ok, then make a comment about how I'm glad I was going slow to avoid such a situation... hehehe
