RE: Gut Shot

Well I can answer the thread I started. i hit one this morning and let her lay eight hours and found her 30 yards from where I saw her go into the woods. I hit the liver as well as a gut shot which I think did her in.Thanks everyone for your help.

I've had it happen 3 times over the years, and each time they never went more than 100 yards. The trick is to leave the area quietly and waitATLEAST 6 (ormore)hours. They will lay down and die. If there is water nearby, they will almost always be found next to it.

One thing to consider here that I haven't seen posted yet is the yote population around where you hunt. We've got a bunch of them little nasty suckers running around our property. I hit one in the gut 2 days ago. I let her lay up for about 3 hours the first round and went to look for her at night. It's like finding a needle in a haystack at night because sometimes the blood is so thin or sparse. I decided to back off until morning so I didn't push her if she was still alive. Well, I tossed and turned that night because I knew the yotes had a good chance at finding her before I did and sure enough they did. I found her the next morning at the kill site and they just ripped every piece of good meat there was on her. So ina situation like that you have to think about things like that and make a decision. I felt I did the best I could do in recovering her but the yotes beat me to it. Here's the pic of what happens if you go too long and have a good yote population around (I cleaned her up and pulled the skin back over for a "cleaner" picture):
