Sucess with Feeders
 

I know some of you don't like any bait.

But for those that do, I ask this question, does a decent buck ever get shot near a feeder?

I typically hunt nowhere near a feeder. I do hunt near feeders about 5 or 6 times a year, and I have hardly seen any deer there, and never any good bucks. I think bucks are either afraid of them or are smart enough to be wary of greeks bearing gifts. I don't even see as many does by feeders as I do elsewhere, but if I put corn on the ground without a feeder, I tend to see a lot of does.

I know bucks will come to them at night (trail cameras prove that), but I think I am giving up on feeders. Your experience?

I have taken some of my best at feeder stations.I hear all the time ,"Big bucks don't go near feeders" will that just plain not true.my wife and I have taken just as many good buck around feeders as we have other places.the 2nd largest buck I have ever taken was standing under a feeder when I fired on him.the other two was within 100 yards of one.
I know there are a lot out there that doesn't like feeders at all. thats there privilidge, useing one is mine.as long as it's legal, I say it's ok.

sometimes I think it takes a while for them to get use to eating around one.

Normally bigger, more mature bucks will come in later to feed. I'm thinking it's because they're usually pretty wise and they wait to see if any danger is at the feeder before they come in. Normally, you will see smaller does and some small spikes or bucks, which will then get back for the mid size bucks, who will eat after the does normally and then if a mature buck is out there, he will probably kick everyone aside at the feeder. So to answer your question, definately! It just might take a little while for them to come in. If you're not seeing one, I'd put a stand in a field around a trail that deer use to get to the feeder because sometimes they'll get there and decide not to come in.

that's my experience, when I have the feeder out during the off season. does during the day and bucks at night, however, during the rut a mature buck might show up during the day, it could happen...
