Mock Scrape's
 

I found a serious rub line while scouting out a new bush last weekend ,so I took in a stand and set it up ,I've given it a few day's of quiet and today I'm planning on making a mock scrape and putting some buck urine on it .Do you guy's think it's too early to start a mock scrape ? and do you think it might be too early to hunt this stand ? I put it in on Saturday .
Let me know what you's think .

Absolutely not. I made a moc scrape more than 2 weeks ago and its tore to high heck every night. Dont over do it though on the urine. Make sure you place the scraper under a low over hanging branch that is about 4-5 feet high. Sprinkle that buck urine around on any lower lying vegitation as well around the scrape. Give it a day or two and theyll have it tore up. Remember more than one buck my visit the scrape.

I've had a few bucks visit my mock scrape already. I made a scrape where there was and old one from last year and put some synthetic pre-post rut ina drippier and poured some on the scrape. I took them almost two weeks to visit this area.




I hunt a way different area than you do. Around here the deer smell people and their environment is changing all the time. So I'm not scared to hunt a set stand the same day!

If you have an existing scrape/rub, do you pour the buck urine in the existing scrape or do you create a new one near by? Should you also create a mock rub or break some of the branches in the tree?

First I would like to say that you have a great forums here and to introduce myself to you. I live in Southern IL. and have harvested a nice doe already this archery season. My question on scrapes is what is the best technique and tools to make a good mock scrape. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work here. It is great to have a good place to talk to other hunters and stay on top of the game. Hope to be here for a good long while with you guys.

I think it would be in your best interest to add a mock scrape to that scenario, making sure you keep all human scent as minimal as possible. The buck I harvested the other day stunk like a rutted November buck. He had been working scrapes, I could tell by his urine drenched hocks...Best of luck bud, I wish you well.

When building a mock scrape...I always use rubber gloves/ wear rubber boots, ( think rubber has a distinct smell..but doesnt seem to bother the animals in my neck of the woods..)get fully cleaned up, wear my lok/xscent (this year added that)..combined..spray down...and never touch the licking branches with my bare hands...

I seen your great buck this season and he's a real beauty for sure , With a deer like that coming off a scrape ,your obviously doing thing's right .Thank's for your advice ,I'll follow them very closely.
