What do you think about this hunting spot?
There's a cornfield that's an active food source. Right next to it is pine thickets. Within the pines there are various grassy areas where there are definite and fresh signs of deer bedding down. In one of these grassy areas I found about a dozen spots of flattened grass. Note that I've found bedding 20 yards from the cornfield as well as 100 and 200 yards from the cornfield.
The deer are undoubtedly there... problem is... since the food source and bedding area are right next to eachother, I can't get in or out without giving away my location. When I go to my tree in the morning I scare them away and see nothing all morning. Same with the afternoon. I believe my only shot is to go in in the morning, of course scaring them up, then waiting all day for them to feel comfortable enough to return. What do you guys think? |
RE: What do you think about this hunting spot?
Let me add that my stand is within the proximity of the area discussed. Also that I've never actually seen or heard deer scare up deer from their bedding but I know I had to have because there's always freshly flattened grass and no deer. This is a little difficult seeing as I'm supposed to be hunting between the bedding area and the food souce but they're both right next to eachother.

RE: What do you think about this hunting spot?
Since this sounds like a bedding area for sure, you might want to go into your stand later in the morning when the deer are feeding and sit all day.
I try to avoid bedding areas if possible, but if its all you got to hunt it sounds like a good area for sure! |
RE: What do you think about this hunting spot?
It could be possible that they are bedding in this area during the night after they fill their belly they go there to chew there cud? Just a thought?
