Success at Last!!!!

Ok, heres the skinny. Our Sunday School class had scheduled to do some volunteer work at the Pregnancy center Sat. morning at 10:00. I wasnt even going to try to hunt that morning but I saw a small buck in the edge of the woods early fri. evening and figured they were moving. I decided right then that I would hunt Sat. morning and come down around 9:15 so I could go with the SS class. I have permission to hunt this very small parcel of land down near the house (less than 10 acres of actual woods) and I had scouted it and found a very nice rub in there earlier. I had a loc on in there but I didnt put it in what I figured to be the "hot spot" I was saving that for cooler weather and figured I would go in there with my climber later on. Well anyway I was laying in bed at around 5:45 Sat morning trying to debate about wether it was worth the effort for that little bit of time that I had. Well I was wide awake and I kept thinking of that litlle buck moving so early fri evening. I thought to myself "well you aint going to kill one laying here" I got up and got dressed and took off. I eased in the woods and I figured I would get busted and blowed at. ( I really had this place setup as an evening spot) To my suprise I made it in with no problems. The weather was perfect and I didnt break out into a sweat like I have on every other hunt so far. By the time I got all my stuff on and got the bow up and ready it was about 20 minutes before 1st light. It couldnt have been better. Well all was pretty dull til about 10 til 8:00. I heard something in the thicket behind me. I stood up and sure enough I caught movement. Out popped a lil spike. I thought it was a doe at first and was going to take her, then I saw his lil horns. He was begging for it man, he came in and stood about 10 yards out looking the other way! It was hard to let him walk but I knew he didnt make that awsome rub and I figured I had bigger fish to fry. Well about 30 minutes later nature called and I had to take a whizz. I did it in a plastic bottle and put it on the side of my pack. After that relief I was getting kinda antsy and I figured I would try some grunting. I picked up the grunt tube and was bringing it up to grunt when I saw him coming down the old logging road I walked in on. I struggled to get the grunt tube hung back up but I finally did that and got my bow off the hook. He had his nose to the ground almost like he was trailing me to my stand. I figured he was about to go on full alert at any minute. I could tell he had a big body but still wasnt sure what he was. Well he turned on the trail and that when I saw the rack. I new he was shooter and thats the only time I looked at the rack at all. He came in like he was going to come right in front of me but he turned and went to my right going into the same thicket that the spike popped out of. He was moving steady and I knew if he got in there it was over. I had 2 small and I mean small, shooting lanes over there and I had ranged it earlier at 26 yards. He was moving steady and went right past my first lane and was moving through the second. I drew on him and he must have heard it caused he stopped. Well I was in a bind, I couldnt get turned all the way over there because of my safety harness and when I drew, my elbow was hitting the tree. I had to bend my knees and contourt my body to come to full draw. (mind you all this happened in a matter of seconds) I had 1 little opening between a mass of thick crap that I could maybe get an arrow through. I tried to take my time and aim low so I wouldnt shoot over his back. I touched it off and it still flew high and hit him in the spine. He dropped like a rock but he was still alive. I watched him for a minute but realized he was still alive. I didnt want him to have to suffer like that so I climbed down and walked to within 15 yards of him. He was laying on his side and I put one up in the boiler room and finished him off. I left him and went and called my Dad. He went and got my 90 year old GrandPa and came down. Having both of them there made it extra sweet. When we went back to get him he was right there and he was actually a little better than I thought. I had thought he was only a six pointer.
He weighed in at a little over 170. This is my best bow kill to date and I am very pleased and I give all thanks to the Lord for blessing me with the awsome experience and opportunity.
