What happened ?

Last night dad shot ten point buck at 6:00pm (it get dark at 7:00pm here in mo) at 30yd broadside, he gets out of his stand at 6:30 to see if their was good blood he picked up the arrow to see 4” of the tip broken of and a little meat and hair in side the shaft of the arrow . He looked all over and could not find a drop of blood. What could have happened ? Here is his setup.

Just a guess, but I would say the arrow hit some pretty heavy bone and never reached/missed the vitals. How did he feel about the shot? Did he think it felt like a well placed shot??

Sounds like shoulder, how long is your dad draw length, how many lb does he shoot. How heavy are his arrows?

The crazy thing is no blood if the spitfire brokethe skin thetheir should have been at least a littel blood. He has shot deer in the shoulder before with good
results.

RE: What happened ?

If you shoot a Spitfire, and hit the deer in the shoulder.........you're not going to have a good result! They're isn't much that that will blow through a shoulder bone, especailly not a mechanical broadhead.

Good Luck!

the shoulder on a deer is a kind of flat bone, unless the arrow hits it straight on (square) it is very likely that it will not penatrate, i imagine he was up in a stand and shooting down, if he hit the shoulder bladethe arrow most likely deflected[&o], which is what sound to be the case, BTW i have killed a few deer that other people had shot with less than perfect shots, even founda broadhead in a deers hip once[:-]

? I blow right threw shoulders with my mechanical spitires. Just got to put some juice behind them. The biggest mistake people make is using mechanicals with to low of a poundage bow people

You neve know though. Lot's of times ther is no blood trail with out an exit hole. I would search for the deer if you havn'et already. He could be down close by.

That same thing happended to me but it was a hog. It ran 30 yards until it started bleeding a few drops of blood.

RE: What happened ?

Sure sounds like a meat shot. Could have been the back or hind quarters too. Did your Dad see where the entrance was (where he hit the deer)? If you found 4 inches of arrow broken off, then you obviously have an exit wound too. I would try to pick up the blood trail in the direction the deer went. It could still be a fatal wound, maybe just not bleeding much right away.
