It's part of hunting. Just make sure you do everything to try and find it and tell your buddy to do everything he can in the future to prevent losing another one.

RE: Friend lost one!

Ill never forget the buck I lost a couple years ago, easilly woudl have been a 170-200 class buck. Was sure I had a great shot on him, perfectly broadside at 15 yards. Took the shot after he stepped out from behind a huge oak. Waited about 45 minutes before i got out of my stand when all of a sudden it started to drizzle. Ok no big deal. I began tracking, but getitng close to dark it was hard to see, so i went to the truck and got a flashlight. Then it happend it started raining heavier. I went to the farm and called a friend who has an infared detector and her dropped it off, me, my bother, his wife, and another friend of mine searched for 4 hours that night trying to locate him before we gave up for the nite. I called my friend to let him know we didnt have any luck finding the buck. He said hed be over the next morning bright and early, we searched some more that day for well over 4 hours and again no sign of him. We searched the river bottoms, the islands, nothing......Needless to say i was pretty upset, not that we couldnt find the buck but mroe or less that it had to rain when a once in a lifetime buck comes your way and you have a good shot. I searched 3 more days for that buck with no sign, we believe hes still around. reumors have been going around that there is a 12-16 point buck that has been spotted by our neighbors crossing the river between his place and ours, has vissible scar just behind the shoulder and a bit high. Were pretty sure its him. Maybe this year. Th epoint is, i never gave up looking for him, as i do with any deer that has been wounded.
