Horrible morning..

Went out hunting yesterday. It was raining insanely hard. My one buddy went to his tree and my other buddy (Ccm352) decided to hunt a tree he hunted a couple days ago. Unfortunately it was about the same location I wanted to hunt and only about 20 yards from the tree I was hunting the week before. So I started walking around looking for a tree. I thought I found one but by the time I was 10 feet in the air I had cut about 20 branches off and was fighting the climber up the tree past branch stubs. By that time I didn't know if I was more soaked from the rain or all the sweat from trying to get up a tree. I decided to get down and finda tree with no branches. I walked about 30 yards and found one. This time I got up the tree in relatively easy fashion. I sat down, moved my foot and my platform fell 20 feet to the bottom of the tree. There I was 20 feet up a tree without a platform or bow. I sat for a minute to weigh my options. I really didn't have any so I radioed (luckily I bought radios 5 days earlier.)to by buddy (Ccm352) to come help. Reluctantly he came and helped me out by hooking the platform to my bow line.(don't cut the line on the platform that you tie to the seat.. I did cause it got in the way. I plan to now put a line back on.) That worked and he went back. The rest of the morning was spent sitting in pouring rain watching branches fall off of the surrounding trees. Didn't see one deer. Got down and realized that my rain gear did nothing and I was soaked to the bone.

That sucks, but you would look kind of funny up there in the tree with no platform.:D

You aren't the only one who has learned that the connection rope between the foot section and seat section is extremely important. ;)

On a humorous note, I would have loved to have seen you sitting in the top part of the stand 20 feet up a tree.:)

Luckily you have good friends to help you out.

Yep, I had on my full body harness. After the platform fell I made sure that harness was strapped on real tight. It was a funny sight I'm sure but I felt like a bonehead.

i didnt reluctantly help.. I was happy to, but i gave him a hard time over the radio as i sat in my tree with a big smile on my face.. He is sitting there with his feet dangling. I asked him if he could shoot and he said no.. he legs were falling asleep. I walked over and looked up at him. because of the over cast morning it was still fairly dark around 645-7.. i see him with his feet dangling.. it was kinda humerous!

I couldn't help but to laugh when I read the story. Only because I can totally relate. :D I've had similar days in the woods. Thankfully you had a buddy nearby that could help.

LOL.... good story, glad it happened to you. ;) My husband about flipped out of our buddy stand this past weekend. He stepped to one side of it and the other side raised up... I guess it must be the 80# difference because it doesn't do that to me. I think we have some readjusting of the stand to do:eek:
