Lost my hunting spot
I recently {october 3rd} lost my hunting spot. I was helping a local framer with his crops for the opportunity to hunt his land. It seems he leased the area out from under me and said nothing. I found out coming back from the evening hunt on the 3rd day of the season. A local scab known for his poaching abilities now has his hands on a sweet piece of land. There goes 4 years of hard work.
Ever had this happen to you? Having a hard time finding another spot thats not taken. If any michigan hunters near the lapeer area are looking for a good , ethical hunter to join them I would be greatful. Email me at [email protected] . Until then , good luck and I'll keep looking. |
RE: Lost my hunting spot
That sucks. [:'(] I'm sorry to hear that things worked out that way. Did you ask the farmer why he made this decision? It sounds like you guys had an agreement worked out and if it were me I'd want to know why he didn't keep up his end of the deal. Why couldn't he allow you guys to share the property?

RE: Lost my hunting spot
shti happens. some idiot that has a butt load of land next to ours decides to build a stand on the edge of our land. I called him and asked him what he was doing. A few weeks go by and today I found ANOTHER one on our land. This idiot has butt loads of land and he wants to put a stand on ours. he says that his son is going to hunt junvial. I doubt it and any time I have to **** or piss I am going right to his stand.

RE: Lost my hunting spot
Sorry to hear that. I'll say the same thing I post to everyone. THINK RESIDENTIAL. You can PM me if you want somepointers.
Good luck, the season is still young. |
RE: Lost my hunting spot
I asked him why , his response was "I have known the guy for years and the money he offered was too good to turn down."
Apparently he leased the land out to this guy and gave him full authority as to who hunted the spot. I have heard the guy is a big problem in the area. He likes to road hunt with a rifle and a spotting scope. He used to be the township supervisor , and the farmer I helped ran for drain commisioner last election. I thing it has to do with some political promises if you asked me. When I asked if I could bow hunt the area {since he dosent bow hunt} he said no. The spot was off limits and being reserved for a couple buddies. He isnt even going to hunt it. GO figure. |

RE: Lost my hunting spot
Unfortunately, the landowner has the right to do with his land as he wishes. He let you huntin return for your help on the farm. Along comes a "better offer" so the farmer takes it for his better meant. It sucks, but this is happening more and more every year every where. Money talks, and leasing is taking a hold every where. Farmers don't make a whole lot of money farming the land, and with fuel prices like they are, things are really tough right now. So when someone flashes dollar signs, that's all she wrote.
Good luck finding a new spot. They are out there, ya just got go find them! Knock on doors and don't be afraid of the dreaded "NO". Be courtious and knock on the right door, you may find yourself on better land than you had! |
RE: Lost my hunting spot
Yeah I hear ya. It just sucks the way it went down. You would think that a man would step up and talk with you.

RE: Lost my hunting spot
Sounds like the money talked and he listened. That's just the way it is these days.

RE: Lost my hunting spot
Yep, sign of the times. I had a little farmette here in pa. And showed up one day to hunt and was ******ed off. Caught me completely off guard. Richard Gere the actor who is from the Philly area bought the place. One of his strong men securities threw me off. The only problem I had a deal with the prior onwer and the settlement was not finalized yet. I got another 3 weeks to hunt .Richard Gere of course is on the board of PETA,a homo and a buddhist/ The last day I hunted there I tacked a set of buck ballsob the barn door. He did eventually make the place a horse farm.Stripping all the woods off.And a huge buiulding for saving Gerbals
