Words to remember before the shot?
This will be my 4th year at bowhunting.
Some post said that some guys laminate certain words on their bows to calm them down before they take a shot at a live animal. I think this would help me because I get real excited the closer a deer is. Bend at the waist is the only word I can think of.Please give me some words that help you,so I can make a good clean shot. Thanks |

RE: Words to remember before the shot?
This is my first year bow hunting, but I have been shotgun and muzzleloading for years. Every time I see my deer, I remind myself with "Breathe dammit!". It calms the nerves for the steady shot.
Good Luck! Aim, deep breath, let it out slowly, let 'er rip. |

RE: Words to remember before the shot?
I have nothing, what I try to do is visualize the shot as I sit and wait(before I see a deer). I visualize deer coming in and wear I am going to pull back, etc etc. Just like a lot of the modern athletes do.

RE: Words to remember before the shot?
I'm doing the same thing as ghemry, I visualize where the deer will come from at every angle and exactly where I will have to take the shot... this is only my 2nd year bowhunting and luckily I keep a cool demeanor through all of it. My adrenaline starts pumping when I first see a deer coming in... when they take their sweet time, like they do, it gives me time to sit down, calm down, and compose myself before I ready myself for the shot. This is what I did last night. I stayed seated until he was within 5 yards of my shooting range, as soon as he put his head down in the beans, I slowly stood up. I stood there for 10 minutes waiting on him to make his way into my shooting lane, I got my feet situated, I held my bow steady until I was ready to draw, then I reminded myself to breathe, and I replayed everything in my head that my husband would be saying to me if he were sitting right there, "breathe in through your nose, out through the mouth, kisser button in the corner of your mouth, string on the side of your nose" It helps me to be able to remember what he would say if he were sitting with me...
If I put any words on my bow it would definitely be "Compose yourself"... |
RE: Words to remember before the shot?
I have a picture of my baby girl with the words "Im hungry" under it. Its really a joke but it keeps me motivated on those long days.
