Keeping Bow Dry
 

How important is it to keep your bow dry? What kind of harm can it do? What do you do to protect it?

Im guessing you mean while hunting in the rain. Just let it get wet. When you get home, dry it off, was the string real good, and check the axles. Other than that, its not going to hurt it.

If I know it's going to be a rainy hunt I make sure to really wax the string/cable really well before going out. I've been out in some pretty heavy rain and I've yet to encounter any problems. When I get home I'll wipe down every nook and cranny on the bow as best I can. Then, just to make sure I'll take my air compressor and give it a good blow dry.

String wax, axle lube...and believe it or not I actually wax my bow in the off season with a commercial car wax. Doesn't seem to hurt anything and gives me some peace of mind.

Yep, wax the string and wipe down the bow when you get home. I know people that bow fish with thiers and just drop the bow right in the water when they hit one.

I don't hunt in the rain, but I do shoot a lot in the rain and snow. Doesn't seem to hurt anything on my bows.

Honestly direct sunlight is worse on a bow than water is.

I hunt in the rain a lot....and this is the first year that I've had a problem....my top limb pocket made a little popping sound (bow is 6yrs old). I lube the axles every year and haven't every had any troubles with them, but this was a first for the limb pockets.I just got it lubed up today, and the noise is gone.....I'd justschedule a good axle and pocket lubin' during the preseason or postseason.

When you get it home, shoot it a half dozen times. This will shake out any access water. Then lube it with some silicone spray and then blow off all the access with one of those "Air in a Can" thingys. When it's good and dry, rewax the string and cables. Your axles and limb pocketsshould be greased at the beginning and end of every season.
