Phantom Electronci Game Callers - Every use it?

Ok - let me get one thing right out in the open - I'm a sucker when it comes to any electronic toy. Recently I've noticed the phantom electronic Game caller which allows you to use a remote controled device to make sounds like a ground scrape, social sparring, forage paw, deer step, grunts, bleats, distress calls, etc. The unit has a speaker attachment that can be placed out to 60 feet from you. Anyway, before I shell out $200 bucks for one of these things, does anyone know if 1) they work and 2) if it is legal in the State of Illinois.

As always folks, I appreciate and value your input.

Bob

Well it took some doing but I found the web site for this thing. WWW.deer-calls.com The web site shows a map of those States that this is legal in. Although it shows that it is legal in my State (Illinois)I just wanted to be sure (God knows I've been burned before)so I put a call into the Illinois DNR. They are currently reviewing the web site.

go to www.predatormasters.com although alot of these guys are using the predator version, they can tell you if the unit is any good.i have not heard many negatives on this caller, its small compact and sounds great.

The predator version would be legal in PA, however the deer version is illegal in PA. Make sense?

I don't think I would use it anyway. I've been calling deer for about 20 years now, I think I do alright without hauling all that along.

They are really nice. The varmit and deer callers are both on display at Cabelas. If I had some extra money, I get the varmit caller. And they are so small, that would really be handy. But for deer, I can make better sounds than the caller. The sounds on the caller sound good, but I still would recommend just buying a few calls and going that way. Deer calls aren't very hard to make with all the new types of calls these days. And I feel it would be more effective than getting a caller. But with the varmit caller it is a different deal.
