My elk with bow
 

This is my elk that I killed this year.The shot looks way back but the elk was walking at a hard angle away from me.The bull only went 20 yards than piled up.At the time of the shot there was 5 outher bulls less than 100 yards from me.This one was the nices one out of the bunch.He grosses 337 not sure of net yet.

Did you book a guide service or go it alone. I am looking to go out west next year for an Elk hunt, but its a pain to try and find a good guide. It will be my first trip out there and I want to do it right.

I did not nor will I hire a guide.Elk are not to smart.If you are a good whitetail hunter you can eat elk prity eazy.I moved to MT.7 years ago and have killed 8 elk.Last year and this year you can get a extra cow tag.I passed up 8 bulls befor I shot this one.A passed bull means he was at least 30 yards or closer.

The elk pic that is here is of one brian shot. He was a guy I invited on this sight to come hunt with me this year.It took him 5 days to kill this one.His pic in not real good but the elk is a 7x6. I would gess his would score around 300 bc.

My wife missed a very very big elk this year. I think she got a little shuck up.The bull she missed I would have to gess to be around 400 bc.It was a 8x8 with at least 50in main beams.She is still hunting and will kill one.In the 7 years she has killed 3 but this year is not over yet.

Congrads! I can't wait to get out there and try my hand at it! My son (who's 2) and I sit and watch all The Truth Big Bulls videos by Primos all the time. He makes one of the most perfect elk bugles I've ever heard; I'm just worried about what it's doing to his vocal chords! :D

Man nice bulls, I'm envious as well........I lived in MT and worked as a flyfishing guide for a short time and absolutely LOVED it out there. I'd kill to be chasing elk around this fall.[&o]
Where in MT are you guys hunting? I lived in the Paradise Valley about 17miles north of Gardiner (N entrance to the Park) in the Tom Miner Basin.
Lots of great bulls in that area.

Good bull!!! I has been my life long dream to go Elk hunting. My father and I had a trip planned to Mt. for my college graduation, however he got very sick a week before we were to leave thus we couldnt go!!! Dang the luck. [:@]

You dang dog, and the same to your hunting partner.;) Those bushes in that picture look very familiar. I saw a lot of trails in those thickets and heard them around me but it was so thick getting a shot off that most of the shots would of been 3 or 4 yards. I saw some nice bulls and could of shot a cow almost every day but I was too far in and temps were in the 100"s. The meat would of been spoiled by the time I got it back to the truck. Even though we didn't hook up, its good to share the same tropping ground. Now send me some of those backstraps and I won't say anything about the misses I heard you had. ;)

I have a few tricks on the meat thing.Frezzer/genarater cool your meat off fast.

Sorry we did not meet up. Next year we will have to talk befor hand and make a few plans.I do not hunt with many people from MT.Most of them hate outsiders and think you should beable to kill your elk from the truck.I was told you come out there alone,this would meen you are out to kill.Not just to drink a beer or two.I am a very very hard hunter.But I do not mind hunting with outher people just dont like the sleep till 8;00 back befor dark people.

I hunt in a real nice place.The people that camp right next to me are very nice.They will run to help get your elk out if you get one down.As I will do the same for them.There is normly 5/6 people in there camp at any given time.Normy only 4 to 5 in mine.Most of the time only 3.

My elk was shot on the ground out in the wide open.I lay down in the grass and crall around like a snake.Brys way killed in a trypod.I am a very good sneek hunter.I think for most people it is way better to stand hunt than try to get up on them and kill them.I even kill my whitetails on the ground.You kill whitetail on the ground that makes elk eazy.

Give me a yell I am sure I will and do know where there is elk standing most any day.I allso go hunt over at deerlodge[the prision] every year with my bow.You can hunt there till new years.You allso get to kill 5 any deer.
