Just the Dirt

I was visiting with a co-worker today at lunchabout whitetail hunting. He's been real successful over the years making mock scrapes, yet he uses NO urines in them. He says just tilling up the ground works for him. He says he hunts a funnel and has for years and when he tills up the dirt the bucks always seem to find the freshly tilled smell of the soil.

Anyone else use this type of method with any success?

I suppose that they would still view it as an intruder marking on their turf , but you'd think that the lack of smell would make them suspicious .

Do you really think the buck sniffs the dirt and says " No piss in it, must be human, RUN!! " :D:D I use the fresh earth tecnique also. Works good. Like cardeer, if I was going to use pea than it might as well be free, mine.

Before I get in a stand I will always kick up a pile of leaves to uncover some fresh dirt. Do it where you have an open shot...9x outta 10 if a deer walksnear that spot it'll stop and put its nose in it. For what ever reason it seems to work....I've shot many deer sniffin the ground.Stopsthe deerin your shooting lane and takesit's mind off you.

I haven't used it but I can see the wisdom in it. In fact I have heard these types of comments on several occasions and from reputable sources. I wonder if there is any truth to it.
