New Bowhunter needs help
 

Hello fellow bowhunters. I am recently new with only one year under my belt. I went out one year and got w/in 60 yds. of a bruiser i'm estimating he was 170 class he was huge but anyways. Since in college as an RA I have little time to get back to bowhunt therefore I am resorting to a rifle due to the fact that I can hit my target up to 300 yds. if neccessary but I hope not to have my target that far away. Anyways one reason I am still using my rifle is because here in KS we can only get one buck tag either for a bow or rifle or muzzleloader or what ever you choose. I am afraid to go get that bow tag because that takes my distance down from 300 yds. of killing power to 30 yds. andI have yet to shoot my first buck period with rifle or bow soIwould really like to shoot one soon.. Also anytips of stand placement and when to go out and what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Just walk out, load the gun, pull the trigger, go pick up your deer. You're a gun hunter.[8D]

You need to stand on either food or sex source. I have better luck with does on food and bucks on scrap lines. Without a stand on one of these you are just lucky to see anything at all.

As a bowhunter we try to get as close to the animals as possible. I find this most easily done when the hunter positions himself in thick cover in a transition corridor between the feeding and bedding areas. If you can find an area like this in your neck of the woods then you should have a good opportunity at least at getting a shot.
