RE: Who got you into Bowhunting
I know y'all will find this amusing but I got interested in bow hunting because my husband is always watching hunting shows ... he has bow hunted since I have known him and I have never been interested until this year when I started paying attention Michael Waddell's hunts. He looked like he was having SO much fun and I couldn't wait to try. So we found abow that I liked and got it outfitted and I started practicing. Within a few weeks I was just as accurate as my husband (much to the amusement of his friends!) and I have been hunting since season opened this year.
I have enjoyed reading how everyone got involved in bowhunting ... it is really an eyeopener how many people get into this sport by themselves. I had the advantage of a husband who is an avid hunter and hunting with my Dad when I was little -- until I got into Ag and showing and did not have the time (or much inclination to be honest) to hunt with him but never realized howmany people got involved on their own. |

RE: Who got you into Bowhunting
I sat in on a lecture by Fred Bear in a Cleveland Ohio Sporting Goods Store in 1962 . . . I bought my first bow a Ben Pearson a week later. And with the exception of a brief year or two, I have been bowhunting ever since.
It's the only way to hunt for me and I begin planning the next years hunt the day after season closes. The thrill has never diminished. |
RE: Who got you into Bowhunting
I am the only hunter in my whole family.. Just something i loved when i tried it out with a few friends.

RE: Who got you into Bowhunting
it's kind of funny that so many people got in to bowhunting by themselves. but i got into it when my dad took me with him when he went hunting with my unclei was five. they both got in to it because their uncle taught them to shoot primative (i'm still trying to master this) mydad said that he wouldn't let me get a sight till i was accurate primitave style.

RE: Who got you into Bowhunting
My dad got me into the sport but to be honest I think the real reason I first wanted to bow hunt more than anything was the camo, the whole thought of disappearing into the woods is what sparked my interest and the rest just fell into place.

RE: Who got you into Bowhunting
Uncles got me into hunting but I got into archery by myself. Up here rifle season is two weeks long, it was the thought of a 3 month season that made me buy a bow. Glad I did, got my 1st archery deer 2 weeks ago (small 6pt), I still pick up the picture and look at it and just smile.

RE: Who got you into Bowhunting
I got myself into archery and here is the reason why. For a couple years I have been scouting deer before rifle season. While I was scouting I see 25-30 bucks just walking around without any concerns, all deerstill in velvet. As soon as they shed their velvet then rifle season opens all the bucks disappear. I'm tired of it, so I'm going to chase their butts around with this dang bow. :) Also the rifle season in California is only 6 weeks long. If I do both I can extend the time I have to hunt these blacktails.

My buddy Eric got me into bow hunting. He now lives in Oregon, but puts in for the lottery draw every year here in Arizona.

RE: Who got you into Bowhunting
my dad had me hunting squirrels at a young age, i was hunting squirrels on my own by the time i was 10. i learned to hunt deer and turkeys from him with a gun. when i was little, i got a bow, but i never really liked it much, too much work i thought. Then the summer before i turned 14, i bought Realtree Monster Bucks 7 or something and saw it and thought it was just amazing how cool bowhunting was. combine that with some extraordinary guys on this site, and i was hooked. i borrowed a pse nova from a cousin, set it up, and taught myself how to shoot. the old member twangg on here and shed33 really helped me through the beginning over the internet, giving me tips and such. the next year i go ta job and saved for a month to buy a Mathews and all the top of the line stuff. For me, it's a way to get away from people, just go out onmy own, scout on my own, just go solo. know that i have my drivers license, i have a ton of freedom and it allows me to do everything on my own-scout, hang stands, kill the deer and gut it, register it, all that by myself. i mean, i still love gun hunting with all my relatives and my dad, but thers nothing like bowhunting in the world. other than the 9 day gun season and iowa shotgun, im not picking up a gun for late season, even though ill be able to go with a rifle from nov. 19 thru jan 3. that's how strong i got it in me.
