Shoot sitting or standing?????
Just wondering what you guys do. I've practiced both, but find that shooting while sitting is much more difficult. I'd rather stand to shoot because I'm more comfortable in my ability to do so, but I don't want to spook the animal. I've yet to shoot at a live target from stand with my bow, so i guess I'll see what the situation presents. Thanks.

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
Im the opposite, id rather shoot sitting down. Less shaky then. All but 2 deer ive ever got have been shot while sitting.

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
Go with what the situation allows, if you can stand up and you're more comfortable, do it. If you can shoot from your seat and don't want to spook the deer, shoot sitting down. I personally am standing 90% of the time in my stand, don't like sitting to shoot and can see better standing.

I'll stand up if I can but I've killed more while sitting down.

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I prefer standing up. But...if the need be, I can shoot sitting down. I practice it in case it ever comes up in a hunting situation.
|
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
it depends on the situation and which stand i'm hunting out of...most have been from sitting down....but i always practice from both positions.
|
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I practice standing and shoot while standing in the tree. Wouldn't feel comfortableunless I had practiced the sitting shot frequently. But then, I do not sit down in the stand either unless it is for just a few minutes to reduce fatigue.

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
Most of my shots are standing simply because I need to turn most of the time to make the shot. I have shot two deer out of the stand while sitting though. It can be harder if you don't practice it.

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I do alot of practicing sitting and standing i feel very comfortable if one or the other arise:)
|
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I practice both so that I can feel comfortable with any situation that I might find myself in. My fist and only deer so far was shot this year while standing up.
|
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
when i need to get a shot off quick, i lean foreward a bit and then shoot but if i know the deer is goin to be ther a while, i stand up and shoot
|
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I prefer standing, but I have always practiced from a sitting position, you just never know what is going to happen while in the stand, so you better be ready for anything!;)

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I shoot either way depending on the situation. I practice both so i'm comfortable standing up or sitting. You really need too be able to do both because each hunting situation poses a different challange. -Koz

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I always stand.the first thing I always when I first spot a deer is to stand. I like to get long and tall right against the tree, then I don't look like such a blob up there.
Good Luck! |
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I shake too much when I stand. I'm really scared of heights, I can stand up in the tree, but I can't get comfortable standing and drawing at the same time.

Good Luck! I don't like to shoot sitting, I have done it but would much rather stand. You can better compensate for the unexpected movementa deer might do when you are standing. |
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
Usually standing also. Have shot several w/ my bow while sitting, but for some reason, I'm more comfortable standing.
|
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
Because of the size of the stands that we have in our woods, I generally stand, and I stand for most of the time that I am in the stand too. Lately however, due to a broken leg/ankle i've been shooting while sitting out of a ground blind, and I shoot every bit as good seated as I do standing.

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I guess it depends on the situation for me also, ive shot severaldeer sitting and standing both, but if i had a choice i prefer to sit and shoot.
|
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
If a deer is on the move and I will have to change position alot I will stand but if it is slowing working into a lane and calm I will remain seated. I have taken deer both ways.

Sitting ,My legs dont work

RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
I've shotsitting, standing, leaning out, leaning right, left, bending around the tree. Heck, I even killed one deer while hanging out around my stand by my safety belt (feet on the deck, torso leaned all the way out to the left, suspended by the belt, and shooting back behind the stand).
I practice sitting, standing, standing on a bucket, turned awkwardly, etc. This will also help get your heart rate up for your practice shot, and increase your nervousness. It helps you "learn" to beat the buck fever, IMO . . . or at least deal with it a little. You've gotta trust yourself and your gear. If you're only comfortable shooting while standing, then stand. Be careful if you stand, make sure you can do so silently. Some stands creak, or you might have a knife on your belt that could catch on the treestand railing, etc. Tie up all the loose ends. |
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
standing, unless I am caught off guard. I feel that i have more mobility and control over what is going on.
|
RE: Shoot sitting or standing?????
Always standing. I do a great deal of 3D shooting and that is just what I am used to.
