Bowhunting Leakey Texas, I finally harvested a buck 7 points 2.5 years old I guess. Wasn;t very big but sure was exciting. I also harvested a young yearling that I though was a doe but ended up beaing a button buck. I guess the excitement was so extreme that I couldn't tell at 12 yard that the button buck had nubs. Well he'll taste good but was sad to see that I made that mistake. You live and learn through experience and that's two deer that I learned an awful lot about.

Mistake made, shoulder popped on the buck. everything else went perfect. On the button buck a lot went wrong, first I had given up on the hunt. I had hung my bow on the tree and removed my face mask it was getting hot that morning. That's when I heard it coming, there were actually two but the other never came out. It was probably the yearlings mother. I waited until the deer got behing a tree to get my bow. Left the face mask alone and hid my face behind the riser until I could get the shot.

Boy was I excited on both of those deer.

One deer was spooked in the morning while staging what sppoked him/her my stomach growling. Another lesson learned.

Hint: Eat Breakfast, try to do somthing about popping joints, never give up!!!

Yep, pretty buck. Your shoulder joint popped? I wouldn't think there's anything you could do about that, other than periodically draw your bow to keepthe jointwarm. Wouldn't count that as a "mistake" -- just something that happened.

Congratulations on your deer!

Just to bring everyone up to speed I purchased the Mighty Mite one month prior to season. Had problems with it but practice and hard work got all the bugs worked out.

Before I was using a Carbon 4 Runner Extreme from HCA.

I paid a lot for this season with all the new costs but it was all worth it.

Even thought you may shoot bigger ones down the line, you will always remember your first bow buck. Great Deer.
