What calls to use for deer, now
In Ohio are peak rut is not until early november, so what calls do you guys use for this time of the season?
I'm thinking grunt calls and making scrapes until we get closer to the rut. Kurt |
RE: What calls to use for deer, now
I just be quiet right now. If I see a Buck I might give some soft grunts to see if he is interested. Don't be afraid to try stuff though that's how you learn.

try the primos lil can for early archery. you'll be amazed with the results.

RE: What calls to use for deer, now
I don't really use calls this early in the season though many folks have been reporting pre-rut behavior already. I guess it couldn't hurt to pull the old can call out but I would still probably stick with a doe bawl or fawn bleat.

RE: What calls to use for deer, now
I used my true talker to bring a doe back twice with a lil skipper and spike in tow... She knew something was wrong, stomped, blew and ran, but came back twice to the grunt.

Silence is GOLDEN. Just watch for now and see what happens.

RE: What calls to use for deer, now
If it's quiet and I'm not seeing deer movement I will use my grunt tube and let out 2 or 3 soft grunts. At the most I will do this once per hour in the early season.

RE: What calls to use for deer, now
sounds like I'll wait it out with maybe a few grunts throughout the day
