RE: Put me in the books.....

Thanks again folks. I had a bunch of my regulars roll into the shop today and each of them gave me a big pat on the back as well. It is turning out to be another great day. Wish I could get back out hunting tomorrow though. ;)

One question....how do you think the ar's are working up there for you guys? As far as I can tell, it looks like they are making things much better...at least from what can I see from the outside.

Just curious....would you have shot the first buck if you were allowed? Not being allowed, may have helped you get the big one. Thats a good promo for QDM right there. Either way, it worked out for the best for you...great job! :DNow you can relax and enjoy the rest of the season...and get some meat!
I definitely think the antler restrictions have helped increase the antler size of the average buck, at least where I hunt. Also, the buck to doe ratio is much more even now from my experience so, to some extent, I guess the doe reduction efforts also paid off.

Good question on whether or not I would have shot the 4 pointer. I honestly cannot say. I don't know if I would have had the right angle until he started walking away a bit. I shot a nice 6 pointer last year so I don't know if I would have been as tempted to shoot that 4 this year. Plus, just imagine what he is going to look like next year if he makes it through the season. ;)

CONGRADULATIONS.. Looks almost just like the 8pt I shot this year.

Thanks again guys. I appreciate it.

Dave,

Yep, that ol' Diamond Triumph strikes for the first, but hopefully not the last, time this season. I was using Kirschner's Curiousity Scent in each of the 3 pop-up canisters.

Congrats Frank, that is a wonderful PA buck and an awsome story. That guy looks like he had a big body.

RE: Put me in the books.....

How much did he weigh???

That guy looks like he had a big body.
Davidmil, Jason,

Sorry I missed your question earlier David but after rereading the thread I saw it and then just noticed Jason's post.

The buck dressed out at 142 pounds on one of those Gambrel/scale thingamabobs. I don't know how accurate it is though it seemed about the same size as that 6 I shot last year and it dressed out at 148 pounds.

Inside spread was just shy of 18 inches...for those interested and I entered it at 100 1/8th inches for the contest.

Way to go PA. Nice buck and a great story to go with it. Theres nothing like hearing that sound of them crashing and going down after waiting a few moments after you know you made a good shot;). Congrats!

RE: Put me in the books.....

Thanks folks. Much appreciated.

I would question the 100 1/8 scoring though.

That was the gross score. I would be more than happy to list the specifics when I get home. What did you think he would score?

NIce picture and story!

Thats what its all about!

RE: Put me in the books.....

What did you think he would score?
It's a great buck, no disrespect meant. But from the Photo it looks like mid eighties at best. Maybe he carries more massand tine length than I cansee.

It don't matter to me, he's a nice trophy. congrats again

RE: Put me in the books.....

Thanks again guys. I feel even better about things today. My neighbor just called me. He and his wife just moved into the area this past winter and I helped set him with a good spot and a new ground blind. He took his first doe out of it this evening. The doe was so close that it actually brushed against the blind as it was passing by him to enter the field. I will see if I can post the picture I took when I get a chance.

Badatta,

No offense taken. I thank you for the congratulations and do agree that it is tough to judge the score of animals sometimes just based on one pic. Good luck to you.

RE: Put me in the books.....

Thanks folks for the congratulations. I appreciate each and every one of them.

It is funny you should bring up hunting in a situation with other bowhunters so close by. I brought my neighbor along one time a couple years ago. He was hunting some private land prior to that but lost it as the owners changed. After having one outing with folks walking past his treestand he refused to go back there. :)
