Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Man a lot of bowhunters get shot by squirrel hunters. This one is different though. The bowhunter was recording with his camcorder when it happened.

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Man that is horrible. How the F*#$ can anyone mistake ahuman for a squirrel. Then on top of that they leave the guy there to die!?!? The guy who shot him should rot in prison adn the guy who was promising help should too. He shot him not once but twice. I have never understood how someone could mistake a human for any animal, unless they are shooting at "movement". That is just the most terrible story I've heard ina while

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
That is absolutely terrible. I wish people like this went straight from the courtroom to execution. No reason for him to continue his life in prision. In my opinion. [:@]

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Very disturbing story. To just leave him there and not get help is unbelievable. I hope he does spend the rest of his life in prison. Either that or just execute him.

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
I cant even begin to say how I feel. A very young life has been ended due to total and gross negilgence. My prayers are with this mans family. You must be totaly sure of our target and what is beyond it. The other thing that has always bothered me is the use of a 22 cal for hunting squirrels that are in a tree. The bullet travels way to far to be shooting in the air. I do use the 22 but never shoot them while they are in a tree. ( only while they are on the ground ) If you want to hunt them in a tree use a shotgun with #6 or #8 shot. Those pellets don't travel very far and are much safer for others in the woods.

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Thats terrible, i hope they give that idiot a cell right next to Vangs.
|
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Man that is beyond terrible. Seems like this sort of thing is starting to happen more and more. Since I can remember we have had 3 hunters killed by other hunters. One of which was my good friend who was killed by a twelve year old boy he had hunting with him. This man doesnt even deserve a cell. Hopefully someone will claim him in jail and trade his "services" for a pack of smokes every chance he gets.

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
That is truly the most disturbing thing i have heard in quite some time,For the life of me i can't uderstand how you shoot a person twice and still think it was a squirrel.I think the judge should let Seth's parents have a .22 and shoot him twice and watch him die.
|
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
There is absolutely no excuse in the book for that one. That is just aweful. I mean, did the guy have something out for him or what. You dont just shoot a human because you thought it was a squirrel. I dont care how well camoflauged he was. Sounds like foul play..
|
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
That's why I pack a hand gun. Some sob starts shooting at me I'm spraying the woods with 9mm rounds. How in the heck can a man be mistaken for a damn squirrel? Sad very sad.
|
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Really uncalled for ,but it happens more then you think.Several years ago a guy shot a turkey hunter 4 times before he realized it was not a turkey
|
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
:( Be careful guys...this is sad.
|
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Sad, very sad.. Always makes me nervous knowing that small game hunters might be running around shooting .22s at everything that moves while I am sitting up in a tree doing my best to not be seen..
|
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
By no way am I sticking up for the shooter. What he did was totaly wrong. But as I posted before the 22 shot in the air will travel a long distance. He was close enough to the hunter to hear him scream, but he may have been actually shooting at a real squirrel that was between the two men and missed the squirreland hit the bow hunter. Thats why imo you should never shoot at a squirrel in a tree with a rifle!!!!!! never!!!! Use a shotgun for tree shots. The shooter sounds like he is guiltyof negligence and homocide. Hope he spends many long years in jail!!!!!!!!

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
This is exactly why I had to find different land to hunt this year. Last year a bunch of Hmongs found the land that I hunt and where shooting all over. the rest of the guys that hunt that land and I talked to them and told them where we were at (general area) and asked them to not shoot around there....well, it didn't matter to them. so I found different land and am done hunting there unless I have a gun with me too. It worked out for me as the new land I found is better and I have it all to my self. my prayers are with his family. Like Badatta2d said.....be careful out there.

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
That is a very wise analogy. Maybe it is time for a law change. Like you said if a person misses that bullet comes down about a mile later. Good point.

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Yes, please be safe guys. Carry and have handy some type of flo-orange just in case you need to wave it. My buddy came very very close to being shot by a turkey hunter two years ago. Gun pointed, safety off with my buddy yelling at the guy. And this was on private land!
|
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Wow, that is absolutely terrible. How could you just carry on your day like nothing happened after that. [:@] That guy should be shot a few times with a .22, then thrown in prison.

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
A guy I went to high school with was shot the same way. the 'hunter' took off. luckily he was hunting with a friend who basically saved his life and was able to identify the shooter and his vehicle.
I hunt some public land that has lots of goof balls shooting at everything that moves. I've thought about putting a blaze orange stripe around the tree below my stand. but mostly, i just hunt it during the week or I just stay out of the oaks where most of the 'squirrel hunters' go. |
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
This sad... It is dangerous out bowhunting with the squirrel hunters shooting everything thats moves. Opening morning we had 9 Hmong squirrel hunters come into the public land and it sounded like a war zone. They walked by me in army formation. One just sat down about 50 yards away from me, I yelled out to them and they just ignored me, or couldn't understand english. Bullets were flying. This was the first time I was actually scared to be hunting. I got down from my stand and moved on, sucked! The game warden got alot of complaints about the same group! On sunday they were leaving an area and I was packing up and they just put their rifles in their trunks without cases, highly illegal, and drove off. I warned the warden. He said he was well aware of the problem. No respect, and this was the day after the Vang trial!

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
This is unbelievable. We thought we saw it all with Vang shooting the deer hunters in Wisconsin. Our prayers go out to the families to get through this tragegy.
Hunter education is getting more important everyday with these freak hunters in the field. |
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
I don't see Vang or this guy as a hunter but as murders! JMO!

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
How did this turn into a Hmong bashing thread? Russell Schroeder sounds pretty caucasian to me. Don't get me wrong, Vang needs to receive what he has coming to him in prison and I don't doubt he will. But, theperson that committed this crime is just another idiot white guy.

RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
WOW...just WOW! It sounds pretty cold blooded to me as well...I mean he promised to get help, and then goes on with his day like nothing ever happened? WTH? I'm wondering if perhaps the shooter had never been to hunter safety and didn't have a license? I mean IF it really was an accident, what would he be afraid of getting in trouble for? On top of everything...the court will have to look for some kind exterior motive as the hip shot would have made him scream, but he was also shot in the heart...trying to quiet things down maybe?
On another note, mgk3961, this did not really turn into a Hmong bashing thread. What it turned into was people WARNING others about the dangers of small game hunters being on the same private land. I will agree that Hmong were mentioned a couple of times, but every time I've encountered them on public land it's been a carbon copy of what these other folks have already said here. They all carry semi automatic .22's and they DO walk in military formation. I've watched them empty their guns into squirrel nests just to get them moving without ANY regard as to where those bullets are going. You can call it whatever you want, but I've quit hunting public land just because of them...they come in and take over. I wouldn't even be as upset about as I am, but I have a large maple leaf shaped blaze orange rubber tag deal that attaches to limbs and says "HIDDEN HUNTER" on it...and yet the last time one of them even raised their weapon to look at through the scope! I don't care if you want to call me a racist, but I know what I've encountered and every Hmong I've seen in a hunting situation not only shows NO regard for the laws, but no consideration what so ever for SAFETY. Anyone else that mentioned Hmong were simply stating the same things I just did...they didn't come out and bash them....simply that when you have PEOPLE with no regard for safety things get dangerous very quickly...whatever race they may be. |
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
Pretty freakin' messed up man.
My first thoughts are this kid is some idiot who doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground and thinks that a 22 is so small that it could never kill a person. Being shot twice with a 22 could easily happen before a scream would ever be heard. My Ruger will cap off 2 rounds in a blink. He is most likely a moron who knows NOTHING about gun or hunter safety and just shot at a sound or movement.........hell, he may have even shot the kid on purpose thinking it would be funny and just hurt a little bit like an old BB gun or something. When he saw how much the kid was hurt he figured he would get outta Dodge before getting in trouble. I bet he never dreamed the kid would end up dead. If he did...........he is one SERIOUSLY cold hearted SOB to be able to go about his day as if it never happened. Either way........stories like this make me sick and I don't even like reading thm. My father has always said that he has enjoyed hunting a little bit less since all his boys followed in his footsteps and hit the woods with him every year.........he often finds his mind wandering and worrying more about everyone coming home safe then he does about putting deer in the truck. His heart still races when he hears shots ring out close by (he only gun hunts these days)...........but part of that is nervous excitement because he has a place in his heart and mind that can't help but worry about the safety of his boys.............and we are all grown men. Hunting is so much fun that sometimes people forget how dangerous a situation can become in the blink of an eye. |

Somebody shoots at me and I'm going to kill them if I get the chance. Probably wouldn't shoot up the trees in frustration waiting for the chance though. Never know, you just might get that chance after you've used your last bullet spraying the woods. Similar shooting practices might even be a lot of the reason you would get shot at. |
RE: Wisconsin bowhunter killed by squirrel hunter while he was videotaping
It sound like Wisconsin isn’t a state where I would choose to hunt. Last year a lug nut murders five hunters now this young man is killed by a squirrel hunter that doesn’t report the incident or send help! What Up with this state? Wisconsin’s like the old west or is there a drug problem?[:o]

Why? That is the question that I want to know. He sure as **** better rot in hell. I can see that he ****ed up, but to leave him to DIE? Let's do the same this freak. Sadly a bullet is too good of a death of Mr. Russel Schroder.
My heart goes out to the family of young Seth. Sadly his death will be used against the sport which he loved by the tree-huggers. |
