This may be my first stand, price seems right; veterans?

Pretty heavy in my opinion

Unless you only hunt 50 yds from the truck, that stand is going to get real heavy packing in.

Don't like expanded metal platforms....they pop and crack over time....a little heavy too. But, if it's in within your budget, go for it, it's worthgetting off the ground.

25% heavier than a similar aluminum stand, but a VERY good price!;)

I would also say no because of the weight. The lighter the better.A light strap on with 10 really tapered screw in steps gives you pretty decent speed getting set up and is a lot easier to be nimble with. You do what is right for your style of hunting and your budget.

Couldn't pass it up for $80. We'll see the ease of use, qualitywhen it arrives, I usually only hike 100 yds or so from the quad so the extra 10 lb won't kill me;will make me stonger. ;)
Thanks for the replys!

I have 2 of those stands and I think they work great. Granted I usually leave them on the tree instead of packing in and out. But VERY comfy and great price. One of them is at least 6 years old and I have no noise probelms or creaking. You can get the same stand at Wal-mart for 90 bucks.

I agree about the weight. That is a bit heavy for my tastes.

Here is a good way to look at it:

Summit Viper 20lbs 239.00
Lone Wolf Sit and climb19lbs349.00
Loggy Bayou Transformer 21lbs 219.00

Extreme Climber 28lbs 89.00

How much is it worth for the 8 or 9 lbs of lighter weight.....

Just my opinion......

i opted for a summit over a stand much like this because where i hunt in ky i have to walk agood bit. since you don't have to go far it sounds like a good deal.

RE: 1st stand, buy it or no way.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it. That's just because I hate stand hunting though. I prefer just hunting on the ground with the earth as my cover. I like it better because you can move around a little and just in case there are deer that are just out of range you can try and sneak into range of them to get a shot. Ground hunting>stand hunting

they weigh too much in my opinion but it's very similiar to the summit viper which is one of the best...if you can afford a summit you really should go for it.

RE: 1st stand, buy it or no way.

Me and my son got one of those from Walmart for Christmas last year. They are built by Hunters View. They are still in the box for good reason.

I wouldn't trust it to hold up my 100 pound daughter much less my 275 pound self. Even though it is rated to 300 pounds.

Worst welding I have ever seen. It looks like a two year old welded it together. Some of the welds were cracked cause they didn't get any penetration in the steel. There was rust inside the steel tubing where the heat penetrated at the weld and they didn't bother to clean it up or apply a rust preventative in any way. The tree biter U-bars were welded on crooked.

Personally, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't pay $25 for it much less $90.

Stand has sturdy steel construction
Is it worththe extra $150 or so to have aluminum? In a word: yes.

I love Wally World but...I bought one last year and after 1 hour of dealing with it. I took it back. Once you can figure out how to put it together good luck in carrying it. I'm a big man and bought the Bullet Backpacker by Summit. I LOVE IT!!! Cabelas has them on sale. Also EBAY is whereI buy alot of stuff. They are lighter than most. Extremely comfortable , Easy to stand and shoot out of 360degrees with a bow.

GOOD OPTION THAT WOULD MAKE YOU STRONGER!

I have a similar stand made by Hunters View and I love it, its a little on the heavy side and paid about the same price. Its a satnd you can sit in all day long. on a scale to 1-10, 10 being the highest heres howI voted mine:

Hunters View Climbing Hawk.
Weight:5
Comfort:10
Ease of use:9
Cost:10
Stealth:8
Portability:8

The stand you are looking at is IDENTICAL to the hunters View Climbing Hawk 4000. Aluminum is much lighter but steel is more stable and heavier. Personally Id go with Hunters View.

I have had mine for 4 years. With a little modifications(for sound only!) it is a great stand. Yes its a little heavy, about 22 lbs, but it is reliable, easy to use, and I can be 18 ft up in the tree safely in 2-3 minutes.

Last year was my first bow season and I went back and forth on what stand to purchase. Not sure if it's in your budget but I would recommend the Sumit Viper. These stands are incredible and Sumit's customer service is second to none.

Do whatever you have to do to get in a stand. EVEN, if it means buying this heavy piece of crap.[8D] Really, if you're a bowhunter you need to have a stand. I'd personnally figure out a way to get into a lighter one, but I would have one along with a safety harness. If all you can afford is this one, then get it.

I can get an Ameristep from Wally World for around 150.00.It weighs 23 pounds. It has the paded back rest and side rails.
It will also be my first climber. So I guess I'm in the same boat as the guy who started this post.
Has anyone bought an Ameristep from WalMart?Did you like it?
I getmost ofmy answers from this web site because my family and friends don't hunt. Thanks for any help.
