sleeping on stand opening day

well I should have stayed awake. long night last night and an early morning today did me in. I was asleep in the stand and had a doe, a doe fawn and a button buck all walked by me within 15 yards. the doe was gone before I wiped the sleep from my eyes, the doe fawn was right in my shooting lane but i wansn't ready, and the trailing deer was the button buck. I saw the button buck coming down the trail (at this time I didn't know what kind of deer it was) and when it got behind some cover I came to full draw. it stopped in my shooting lane and I was resting my pin on the ribs when i glanced up and saw the nubs on it's head. I let my bow down and he walked off. boy, i thought i was going to connect on the first morning of the season.

I'm afraid of that happening to me. I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat and my new summit should be about 100 times more comfortable than my old climber. I hope they at least wake me when they come in.

You know I have known a lot of people over the years that have fallen asleep on stand, do not ask me why, but I just can't, I actually have tried sleeping in mid day to no avail. In ways I am glad I can't, but I will be honest I would enjoy a nap every once in awhile in my stand.

I'm like you Taz. I've tried to sleep on purpose but inevitably all I can muster up is a kind of "quazi-sleep". I'll doze off but I'm still aware of my surroundings and feel conscious. Typically some noise will yank me back to alert-mode, breaking my trance.

I have taken naps in my truck though on a lunch break and I did once fall asleep on the ground while turkey hunting. The midday nap can be very refreshing.

Sleeping in the woods, That is when I see the most deer. I think I probably move more than I should most of the time, but sit nice and still when I'm sleeping. Then I wake up to see a deer over my shoulder checking me out, and nothing I can do about it.

That's the main reason I don't use one of the new climbers on the market like the Summit Revolution. I'd spend more time sleeping than hunting and the deer would have an "all you can eat while the hunter's asleep" buffet line at my feeder.

My treestand won't allow that--that's why I ordered an Ol'Man. When it arrives, I will be able to sit ALL DAY for the first time--at least it should be comfortable enough. Wish I'd had it this morning--I was sooooo tired!

Today's small bucks are tomorrow's trophies.

Iam like you Tazman, I can be dead tired and still cant seem to catch a nap in my stand. No matter how hard I try, it just doesnt work out.
