What makes the best windchecker if your makin your own.

get some sort of little bottle and fill it with unscented foot powder or talcum powder, somethign liek that and presto, give it a squeeze and you have a windchecker. I actually bought HS scents windchecker bottle and have kept refilling that one with talcum powder .

Corn starch would be a better choice , most talcum powders contain some perfume .

Milkweed seeds are ideal for checking the wind downrange , they're easy to see and you can even add a small amount of attractant scent to them before releasing them .

I refill my wind checker bottle with flour. I would think deer should like smell of flour!!!!!! Seems to work pretty good!!!

Milkweed seeds...they're free and are designed by mother nature to ride the wind.

That would work too , but I'd wonder if the "chemical smell" would fade quickly enough . Corn starch just smells like corn .

Tie a piece of black thread on the end of your stabilizer.

I use a 6"-8" piece of thread and tie a maribou feather on it and a garbage bag twist-tie to the other end, then just wrap it around my stabilizer.
The maribou feather will grab even the slightest breeze, is right in front of you at all times, so you always know what the wind is doing.

I usually tie up a bunch of them and carry them with me,because they sometimes will break when you go through thick cover.

They work great and you should be able to find maribou feathers at any tackle shop, craft store or strip club. (just grab a handlful from any stripper that wears a boah!) [8D]

I use cotton balls that I keep in a small Rx bottle....pull out little tufts and let 'er fly.
Cheap, too!

I use a M.A.D. calls Smoke Stack wind checker. Paid $0.97 for it at Gander Mountain.

Gobble gobble so many good ideas ..that your head should wobble

old visine or nose spray bottles fill em up with any unscented powder

Id say baking soda..hold bottle above and in front of you and give it a lil squeeeze....doesnt take much to make or effort to use ..andits a perfect TELL on the wind

Also a shot in your mouth is a good breath cleaner..Theres probably baking soda in the toothpaste you use..Its a good odor neutralizer...so you can feel fresh with a lil blast on you neckline etc, when your sweaty.
So now you have a wind detector and scent block in one small package
