Crazy Friend - Won't Eat Meat
 

Hey guys,

I have a friend of mine that has a tradition where every year he will stop eating meat for a month before bow season until the end of rifle season. He claims that what deer fear in humans is that our scent indicates that we are carnivores. He claims that when he does this he never needs to guard his scent. He pees from his tree stand etc.....

I think he is freakin nuts and even if this was effective to the point where I would pull huge deer out of the woods every year it still isn't for me. What do you guys think?

I have heard the same thing from various friends of mine...but I am with you...I couldn't do it! I need meat! If they start pulling deer out of the woods with snow plow sized racks...then i'll consider it but I guess I can't attribute any of my misses to meat scent.

I have heard similar things as well though do not know how much truth there is in it. It sounds like it makes sense but I have yet to see any actual documentation that doing such a thing would make any difference.

Tell your bud that it's the L-Serine that only humans produce that frightens deer , it's our unique signature scent . Lack of meat consumption won't change that .

I don't know anything about the whole eating meat thing, but as far as peeing out of your stand, I actually think human piss works like an attractant, I tried peeing on some bushes near my stand and each deer that passedby stopped to check it out and never spooked at all.

yeah i agree. my diet is based so much around meat i wouldn't do well. i eat veges and stuff but i loves me some meat. especially a big ole steak. :D... jeese i'm hungry. :eek:

I do the opposite eat nothing but only deer meat.Then I smell like a deer

I would starve to death without eating any meat.I have to have meat every day.Vegies onlywould kill me.
