Boy Did I Screw Up Some Arrows Today!
 

Well, every once in a while I do something that falls into the "what were you thinking" category and today was one of them.

I decided to try a single pin sight to see how I would like it. Because I like the Carolina Foxfire TP so much I bought the one pin model. I mounted it on my bow and set the windage the same as my three pin and went to sight it in.

So I pull out my trusty 1980's laminated foam deer target and put it in front of a tree. (see where I'm going here?) well I thought I had it far enough away from the tree....but I didn't.

I shot 4 arrows into the target, they were a little high but the windage was right on, so I reset the elevation and went to get my arrows only to find theywere about 4in into the tree!!!! Seems I set up the target too close to the tree.[:@]

Folks, I tell ya I could not get them arrows out of that tree to save my life! For those who have read some of my posts in the past you know I am not a little guy. Ininfact, when I was playing in the NFL I could easilybench press well over 500lbs and even today at 40 yrs oldI still lift and can still lift alot even though I don'tlift as heavy as I used to.

I pulled on them andusedevery gripper I could think of but to no avail. I worked on them arrows for about 2hrs finaly I said uncle and snapped them off.

So I went and got a dozen Beman ICS Camo Hunter 340's. The good news is I like the single pin sight and the Bemans fly very well with my set up incuding with the Montec's.

I have it set dead on at 30yds and it is only a few inches high at 20yds. I haven't taken a 40yrd shot yet with it to see how much drop but I will do that sometime this week. The arrows are much lighter than my Carbon Express arrows 12.7grn per inch vs 10.0grn per inch so it works out even better for the single pin set up.

If you push the arrows in slightly and pull to the upper right they should slide right out. I had several arrows stick into trees. I can get each one out in one pull with little effort.

Bigj12, that does suck. But at least the forced buy gotyou intosome new arrows.

I've decided to set my slider on 27 yards for treestand hunting.
Thisdistance allowed for the smallest up and down group out to 30 yards for me.
IfI can adjustit come game timeI will, if not 27 will do the trick.

I have use the eotech holographic sight which has a slide adjustment for yardage. I don't use it though. With my Matthews 70 lb. and carbon express arrows i shoot pretty flat. I aim an inch high at thirty and and inch low inside of twenty. Beats messing with multiple pins........dabow

I think that every one of us has done something like that on some occasion. It can get costly if you fire a dozen arrows at a time.

I've done the same thing before with 2 arrows. I was fortunate enough to be able to turn the arrow shafts and remove the arrows with the heads still in the tree.

I wsa sighting in my bow yesterday.Had new Trophy Taker drop away put on and new sites as=lso.I shoot Gold Tip Hunters.Well I was sighting it in and had 30 40 and 50 sighted in.Decided to back up to 60 I had3 out of 5 pins left shot and it went right over my deer target and through the straw and burried all the way into my barn door.Which is tin.Only the last 2 inches of my arrow was sticking out.I pushed it on through and to my amazement my arrow was fine.Vains were a little tattered but still intact.So i get my bow sited in at 60 and pull back and launch one over my barn into the woods never to be seen again.Figured my release let go.Put on another arrow and pulled back and there goes another arrow over my barn.I was like what the hell.Nocked another arrow pointed it at the ground and burried it in a good ways.Started looking at my bow and release Turns out my release loop on my string was worn out and my release was slipping right off of it because it was so thin.So I myself lost a couple arrows less then 24 hours old.Got a good laugh out of it later in the day.
I feel for you BigJ.I used to shoot in front of a big tree also.I dont know how many arrows I lost to that tree.It was about 6 ft across from one side to the other.I finally got rid of that tree after the toranado.Tornado is why I cant find my arrows behind the barn.HAd every tree twisted and laid down back there.It is now a doe bedding area.

I've done it before also. I've found it's alot easier and less expensive to just wiggle the arrows enough to allow me to unscrew the arrows from the field tip and just donate the field tip or broadhead to the tree.
