BAITING

I am so sick and tired of other hunters telling me that baiting is unethical. So I decided to put it into prospective for everyone as I see it if you dont agree thats ok this is just my and about a million other down and dirty bowhunters from Texas opinion. Ok if you think baiting is unethical is the use of scent attractantsunethical what about grunt calls, rattling bags, scent free soap, carbon clothing, rubber boots, binoculars, high powered rifles that shoot 3or4 hundred yards, slug guns that let shotgun hunters shoot out to 200 yards not too mention scopes of all sorts of power levels. And what about atv's,game cameras, carbon arrows the list can go on indefinatly if we all look in our hunting bag or our closet we will allfind that thing or things that give us that little edge.In my opinion noone needs to put down another hunter for using his edge ,well maybe if you are one who climbs in a tree naked and dives out onto a deers back and chokes him to death, you alone may have room to talk .

This thread is what, number 5 or 6 since about Mid-June about the same topic?

We're beating a dead horse, how about we all just agree to disagree this time and save the arguments?

I think that if baiting is legal where you live then by all means you have every right to do so and i have no problem with it.Like I seen someone post in here about this once before. It is about what we were taught in our areas. What might be good for one may not be good for another. But that doesnt make it wrong. If it is legal in your state then by all means go for it.

Actually I did jump out of the tree naked last year. Missed the deer and twisted my knee.

Let's just drop it and talk about big bucks, rub lines, scrapes, and ratteling. It will save alot of arguments. JMHO

If it is legal in your state or area to bait then if you want to do it then do it I would. If it is not legal where a person hunts and they bait then it is wrong. I hunt in two states one it is not legal and the other it is and I follow the law but I will tell you in the state it is legal I bait.

Alright, I went hunting the other day and found ten scrapes and four rub lines. I started ratteling and two big bucks came right to my stand... cause I put out 200 pounds of buck grub, and its not legal to bait in my state!:D

Sorry, had to do it.

But if baiting were legal in your state would you necessarily have those deer coming in to your "buck grub " as there would likley be several others putting out their own "buck grub" or other bait to attract deer ?

Yep, the SAME fighting about the SAME topics over and over again! I don't mind a debate but it gets boring when it over the SAME topics all the time! :([:'(]

IF it is legal where you hunt then go for it.... as long as you NOT using a Xbow!!! ;):D

Remember the good ol' days when people actually used the search function instead of starting another thread when there's already more than a dozen on the same topic??
Me either , might as well get rid of the dang thing.[:@]

I dont care if Joe Blow baits or not, I do it once in a while nothing wrong with it, just because its legal here in Wi doesnt mean IHAVE to do it, I choose to do it, my neighbor may be against it but I dont hear him complaining about it. It goes that way all over. Its the hunters decission. Go for it if you want man, and if you dont want to, then dont. Good luck either way. Were alla family and sometimesposts like this can give hunter wannabes a bad name to all us hunters. You hunt in any means neccessary to get a good clean quick kill. Thats why i bait.

Ahhh.... it wouldn't be hunting season around here if we didn't have a thread arguing about baiting. :D

Bait. Not a problem. I have stands I bait and stands I don't.

RE: BAITING

It is rather funny though how people will actually spend the effort in telling you what an idiot you are for starting a thread. I just love that - "DON'T POST ON THIS, I'M TIRED OF READING THIS, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THIS.....". Funny stuff. There is the vigillent virtual thug standing over these people with a ball bat forcing them to read and respond to yet another baiting thread, now isn't there. How many thousands of threads have been started on simple every day bow hunting topics such as newb questions or topics on shot placement or ... It's a forum people, post away. If we all had to only use the search option rather than starting a thread, we'd all get rather bored of this place quick. Hec, I start a thread somewhere on here at least once a week just for good measure ;):D.

If it doesn't bother you and you are going to do it anyway why make a post out of it. It's huntin season boys lets start talking about the important stuff.

RE: BAITING

After re reading this I take back what i sad[8D] Let's talk about it I would like to hear your different views as well. Here's mine. I don't bait, don't like the idea. Couldn't tell you why, just don't. Hold nothing against those who do. Just not my cup of chowder. Really wouldn't do me any good anyways, kind of a waste of time to put out corn when there is 40 acres of it 1/4 of a mile away.

Or we could say absolutely nothing and have a half dozen threads on the same topic , on the first page ,so everyone else has to dig for meaningfull threads. It's called enlightening the newbies. Most of them catch on quick , some never do.

Why would anyone get bored by using the search function and responding to a thread (or several threads) that's already in progress? If you start a thread that means (I assume) that you want opinions on that subject. You'll get more opinions by using the search function and finding a20 page thread on the same subject than you will by beating the dead horse (starting a new thread).Especially when the old thread (usually threads)still has a pulse.

RE: BAITING

Yep, rifles shoot 300 yards with scopes, but a bait hunter will never know this. Scents, rattling and other calls will help attract attention or eliminate odor to give the hunter an advantage, but you it’s still a fair chase hunt. You have to be proficient in calling set up and accuracy with the weapon of choice. It’s not just sitting over an established feeding station to draw the game to a specific spot and then shoot while it’s eating. Baiting is for the people that are just too lazy or have more money than brains to harvest game in a fair chase hunt. The bait people are the ones that show up late, forget most of their gear, and sleep until 9:00 then to go home and brag to their fan club how hard the hunt was. It’s funny that when the story is told about the great hunt back home, few will mention they were hunting over a bait pile! I wonder why that is? Want to hunt, THEN HUNT. Want to bait hunt, ask the farmer down the lane if you can shoot his cow when it comes into the feeder and to make sure it has a bell on so you can wake up long enough to get a shot. It will save you time and money and keep you out of the woods where ther real hunters hang out.[:-]

I think responding to these threadsis part of the problem. Ignore them and this will show lack of intrest in the subject! That is' if your not intrested.

RE: BAITING

What's to debate? It's either legal in your area or it's not. No debate. As far as someone thinking it's ethical or not, I see no difference hunting over bait as opposed to hunting over a natural food source. They either know where the oak tree is or they know where the "corn tree" is. I personally don't put out feeders but I do throw corn down intermittantly in different spots. It may be once, it may be every 2 or 3 weeks. Some spots I don't throw any corn down. It depends. I have observed deer walking trails and hit a pile of corn and they go from relaxed to wary and not touch the corn. Baiting doesn't mean its automatic and for me, personally, it has its limits and, once again, for me is not much fun. But its legal here so bait away.
