How do you keep your rope untangled????
 

Does anyone have a "trick" to keeping your rope that you pull your bow/gun up to your treestand with untangled. I have a 30ft. rope and I usually wrap it around my hand, which I know is not the best way to do it, because it always gets tangled up. How do you do it?????

I leave my rope attached to a branch by my stand and just leave it hanging, that way the deer are used to it being there. Then when you are ready to go down just pull it up and attach your gear. If you are using a white rope, get some dark colored dye and a bucket and change the color.

What I do is tie a slip knot on one end. Then I take a pieace of wood maybe 6 inches long and maybe 2 inches thick ( like a piece of plywood), and wrap the string around it. I bought a new rope that has clips on each end and is 30 ft long. And as a climb in the climber I unroll as I go up. My climber has a bag attached to the side of it and i keep my pull rope in there along with my bow buddies, etc. If I hunt in portable I leave it hanging all the time......... good luck to ya

I have a rope that provides me one pull rope for my bow and one for my day bag. They are secured to my stand with a Mountain Climbing Carabiner. I drop one rope on each side of my stand. I too leave them in place and when leaving my stand I tie each one to a different screw in tree step. My only problem is pulling them up through the intervening branches.

If you can find one long enough, get one of the retractable dog leashes. They have 25' ones with a clip on the end that would be perfect as far as I can tell. No tangles.

Well let's see if I can describe this correctly:

If you have ever done any fly fishing you should know how to retrieve line in by hand. The figure 8. It's done by holding the line between the thumb and forfinger and alternating the wrist back and forth. Catch the line with the pinky against the palm when the palm faces up and between the thumb and forefinger again when the palm is down..The line stacks up in the palm in an accordian like manner.

Start from the end that you tie to the bow and work back towards the anchor end. When about half way throw a couple of wraps around the bunch to hold it together then continue to wrap the rest using the figure 8 again. A couple more wraps at the anchor end and you're done...

When you take it out, simply hold the anchor end and drop from your stand. It will unravel without tangling.

I go to walmart and get those adhesive backed hooks for about $1.50 and stick them on the side rails of my climber tree stand. Beef it up with some duct tape so it won't come off. Then take 25-30 ft of green parachute cord and just wind it up on the side of the stand. Being on the stand, it's one less thing to forget. Put a simple knot every 5 ft to tell ya how high you are.

I use a product called the "Strapper" which is available in some of the hunting catalogs. It is a 3/4" wide nylon strap with a reel to store the strap cord. I keep it attached to climber, it keeps the line stored neatly, and also works well with your longguns. Sells for about $20.00.

i use parachute cord and have never had any problem with tangles....

Hunting with a bow brings about a different challenge on every hunt!!!

i use 35'of 1/4" rope and put a loop at one end and do a chain or running knot in it . i end up with 2 or 3 coils instead of 10 to 15. i clip the bow on one end ,put the other on my wrist, climb the tree and in uncoils without any tangles. boy scout lifesaving book or a good knot book can teach you . its easy
