Ever since my first buck, I have always placed the buck's "privates" in the crotch of a tree. I don't know if it is an Indian thing or not, but I always felt it was my way of honoring the buck, by not leaving his "privates" with the rest of his organs laying on the ground.

Also, since my Step-father suddenly passed back in 1995, I now always say a little thank you prayer to him after harvesting a deer, and before I field dress it.

(He was the one who got me into hunting, and bought the land I hunt on.)

Never got into playing with the privates, i usually just give them a toss over my shoulder. However, i was given a box of cuban cigars as a gift a few years ago- So each season i take one in my pack; along with an old Zippo my grandfather gave me. When the buck is down, before touching it or approaching it, i will just take a seat on the forest floor and light up the cigar.

Right after I pull the trigger or release an arrow, and the woods get quiet again, I call my buddy, no matter where he is. He does the same. Then, after the waiting game, I do the colorblind man's trackin job. As soon as I find it, I thank the good Lord!

Then after the skinnin and quarterin at camp, I tell the wife"Get cleaned up! It's time for me to celebrate!" This partdidn't always go as planned,....until she killed her first deer. Now it's understood from both of us.

And the antlers wouldn't qualify for this?
NOPE.... they sure won't do. Haven't you ever seen doe with horns. It happens all the time. He's right, some states require proof of sex.You canslit them and pull out the gonads. You have to leave the sack there as proof.

You do what??The bucks proof of maleness always remain attached for proof of sex considerations. After the taking of an animal the first thing I do is turn the spot light off .(just kidding).Actually first thing I do is a little rendition of Michael Jackson's beat it dance(the bow hunter moon walk!)Also just kidding!
I thank god for allowing me to harvest such an incredible creature and I thank the animal for giving it's life for my use.I do this at the animals side. Not Kidding!

I always put the deers privates in the crotch of a tree. I think maybe it's a Wisconsin/Northern Illinois thing, this is kind of getting interesting. Everyone that I hunt with that have gotten bucks, ever since I can remember, have hung the privates in a tree. It's not only for good luck, a scientific reason is also behind it here in Tigerton! It's suppose to attract other bucks looking for a fight, it gets the sent of the buck you just killed into the air! I'm starting to think maybe we're crazy, but it's the norm here in the area of Central Wisconsin where I hunt. I wouldn't think of NOT hanging my bucks genitals in a tree, that just wouldn't be normal!

I have not killed a deer, but I already have a ritual planned out.

After I shoot the deer, I will thank God for letting me succeed in my quest. I will then wait until it is safe to track the deer. Once I find it, I will thank God again and take several pictures. I will the field dress it and bury the organs where it died. I will also mark the placewhere the deer took its last breaths.I do not feel the need to disrespect the deer. I thought about doing the blood on the face tradition, but that is disrespectful.
