Vanes and FOC
I have been shooting one white and two green Bohning Fletch-Tite 4" vanes. I posted a thread asking how hard it would be to find my arrow after the shot. I am thinking about going with two orange and one white vane. I do not know if I want to stay with my Bohning vanes or switch to Duravanes. I do not know of anyone else (although I am sure a few people do) that shoots the Bohning Fletch-Tite vanes. I have a little problem though. My FOC is 14%. I shoot a 28.5" long arrow when tipped with a broadhead, and I have a 6.85 grain nock, with a uni bushing, an insert, which I want to say weighs 12 grains, and three Bonhing Fletch-Tite 4" vanes, which weigh in at 37.5 grains. My arrow balance point is 1 1/2" left of the center when holding the broadhead to the left. Does 14% FOC seem right? How could I lower my FOC?
Is there any reason to switch to Duravanes? Are Duravanes or Bohning Fletch-Tite vanes better? Thanks |
RE: Vanes and FOC
14% is a little high for me.
i try to stay between 8 and10%. try using a heavier tip. we have the same arrow length, although you didn`t say carbon or aluminum. mine are aluminum with 125 grain tips, z nocks, and regular cheep olé vanes. but they fly straitand kill just fine, so I'm happy. PT |
RE: Vanes and FOC
If you're getting good arrow flight with broadheads, dont worry about it.

RE: Vanes and FOC
I have a 15.1% FOC but my arrows are flying so sweet. No reason to mess with it.

RE: Vanes and FOC
You worry too much Zak.
Even if it does change your FOC slightly is isn't going to be enough to dramatically affect your arrow flight. Just worry about getting good groups right now. |
