using scents (when/what)

Just wondering when you think is the best time to use scents and what scents to use (I have doe in heat, buck scent, apple cover scent). I have been using a product that looks like a leaf (not sure of the exact name) that opens and has 2 pads on the inside and can hang from a branch (like them a lot - small, easy to use, close when not using). I'm in the NE and our rut generally starts towards the end of Oct.with the peak being around the middle of the first week of Nov. and lasting a week 'n' 1/2 or so. I hunt from the ground quite a bit and would like to use my scents more effectively. Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated.

This early I'd stick with food scented lures to attract the does , the big boys will be hot on their heels if they think they have a reason to .

I tend to prefer curiousity scents early in the season in addition to estrus urine during the rut. Kirschners and Mrs. Doe Pee respectively.

This early I'll use an acorn cover scent.When the rut approaches I'm gonna give that VS-1 stuff a try.

Tinks Trophy buck lure for mock scrapes early on is great stuff. Tinks 69 for the peak of the rut, enough said.
