Apple Skoal?

I've gotten my friend to not smoke on stand, but he chews and we just thought the other day if apple skoal might even work as an attractant if anything. It smells real enough........

RE: Apple Skoal?

I try my best not to dip while on stand but when the deer aren't moving, it's hard not to.......should just keep the crap in my truck so I don't get urges. The Apple blend would probably attract the deer from miles away....it's good, but it has such a strong odor, strong enough that the deer might think it's an entire orhard. haha I still wouldn't advise it though. I like to stay as scent free as possible.

I dip apple skoal and did during last season as well. Every deer i shot was while a dip was in or after i had been spitting on the ground so it deffinitly doesnt' hurt anything. Opening morning i had been spitting on the ground before daylight, at daylight i had 3 does below and around my stand including one doe right below my stand who was eating acorns about 8" from my spit and used dip on the ground. She even smelled it and went back to eating. Not sure if it attracted her to the spot or not but she didn't care if it was there. go ahead and tell him to dip it while on stand. I have been tempted to put acan out infront of my stand and see what happens as deer pass by it. Just can't bring myself to leaving a good can of dip on the ground to maybe get spilled. lol. Best of luck

apple skoal.... yiggity yiggity yiggity that stuff gives me the willies. Gotta stick with the copenhagen, but I don't recommend dipping in the stand. Have you ever noticed (if you live in the right area)that you very rarely see deer in tobacco fields? They don't like it. Not saying you can't kill deer with it in, as I have and many others but I would try not to.

Iuse to dip when I hunted. I had two does out in front of me when I had a dip in and I was on a log on the ground. Well I had to spit and couldn't move cause they were already spooked. I ended up swallowing some because I couldn't get my bottle and gagged cause of it. I have never dipped in the woods while hunting again. I knew I could have had one if it wasn't for the Skoal.

"Apple Skoal....when you just can't figure out how to get kids to buy more tobacco....make it taste like candy."

The Apple smell stinks! Not natural. But it may arouse curiosity from some deer.

Berry blend is the worst my friend chews that crap and it smells like a bad car freshener. He’s always like “you really think that’s why I’m not getting them close?” Makes for some good laughs at work cuz the dork just doesn’t get it!

When I used to chew I liked Mint. Never saw ill effects from it. Pretty mild smell if you ask me.

They make "apple skoal" now? The last time I noticed, and when I chewed, they just came out with cherry.

Hmm, I wonder if that would be considered "baiting"?

;)

I've been dipping for going on 15 years now and I ALWAYS dip on the stand..... I've had many a deer of the years walk right through where I had been spitting and make no indication of being alarmed. I've spat on the deer themselves on many occasions as well. I don't it bothers them at all. Seems like it should, but experience proves otherwise........

BTW, apple skoal is for wussies...... Any skoal for that matter is for wussies....... Man up and get some Timber Wolf :D

Man a day on stand without Cope?? I have nightmares about that. My checklist always includes, License, Bow, Arrows, Knife, permission slips, Cope. I could probably get by a whole day without the Bow, but without Copenhagan I'd be useless!

Some people carry a back-up release..I carry a back up can! Never noticed an alarming effect from chewing, spitting.

I tried to leave my Cope at home one time, "ONE TIME" I was so gittery and nervous. I just felt out of place. Everytime I hit the stream or climb into the stand I have to put one in.
I'm not addicted though.;)

I know the feeling...... I keep telling my wife that I can't imagine life without my Wolf.......... She's not impressed........

We've got to quit though guys...... It's suicide, just slower........

Ya know Double Creek..I'm thinking of trying to quit. But it has to be the first of the year. I'm not about to try during Golf or Hunting Season. But wait...then that takes me into indoor shooting season...until Golf starts again..man it's always something.

No seriously I am gonna try 1st of year

I have dipped for years out of stands. I used to try not to thinking I was thwarting my efforts to stay scent free. But, after trial and errorI find it doesn't give off a scent that deer find alarming.

So the bottom line for me is, If I can't dip out of my stand; I ain't going?

Copenhagen Black all the way!!! ;)

I've been dipping on stand for years now. Have taken quite a few nice bucks during the years mostly all while chewing.
I use ladder stands mostly and let the ole skoal fly wherever. Sometimes it hits the rungs of the ladder (sorry for the graphic image to the non chewers). I've had on more than one occasion wherea doe actually licked the rung of the ladder where the spit ended up. They've been right under my stand sniffing the ground where I spit too. They know it's something different (i think), but I don't believe they coorelate it to dangerous.

Don't use tobacco products but I have seen deer eat the tobacco from the field. Don't know if it gives them a buzz or what but I have seen it.

RE: Apple Skoal?

I myself do not chew, but I guess I won't bug my friend about it anymore. At least I got him away from the smokes while in the woods. I dipped once when I was a young kid and puked my guts out and even though I could probably handle it now, it was enough of a bad experience for me to not do it again and I figure I'm saving money. There's reverse psychology for you to keep kids off of tobacco products:D

My buddy always dips and he used to carry a bottle to spit in.until he dropped his can and spilled it.The does were under his stand sniffing at it and never did bother them.So now he spits on the ground and doesnt worry about a bottle.

i always dip on stand. i usually try to dip timberwolf peach or skoal apple while hunting. Deer dont seem to care at all about the smell. This yr i think im gona try the timberwolf apple cuz its cheaper than the skoal. Any other time of the year though i prefer a nice dip of cope i just cant bring myself to dip that stuff in the woods. RE: Apple Skoal?

I dipped for 15 yrs and just quit 2 yrs ago. I was hooked bad. If i got up my tree and forgot my snuff, i would get down and go to the truck and get it. If your goin to sit all day it really helps knowin hey 30 more mins i'll have another dip that will pass another hour and so on til the days up.
Ive had deer nose around in the weeds under my stand to smell my copenhagen and didnt get spooked. Then i started digging a hole with my boot heel on the side of the tree i lean over and spit from.trying to hit the hole each time from 20 feet up so it soaks in the dirt instead of staying wet..then would cover it when i left. If you guys are like me, you spit all over bottom of your climber trying to make it thru the bars.
How many of you guys have had deer in front of you and held a spit in long as you could ,then try and sneak a spit out while there not looking and forgot you had your facemask on.[:'(] done it a few times. :)
