I'm just NOT ready.

For this hunting season. I've never practiced so little. I don't really have a stand up yet, although I do have one started and a couple others to put in. I have a couple still left in the woods from last year. Len climbed on one the other day and looked it over. I did the other. I just haven't practiced. Just too much going on in the Miller household these past 5 and a half months. Oh the bow is tuned with a new string and cables. The arrows are tuned with broadheads attached. I did all that back in March. It's just the shooter hasn't shot 200 arrows in 5 months. I went out and fired 30 ors so tonight from 20-35 yards. They all flew true and they were all in a very respectable group. There's no doubt they all would have been in or just missing the heart. The problem is my muscles just aren't up to snuff for the first time in 35 years. I can draw alright without pointingit at the sky and things like that. I can hold it, but not like I usually do. I just haven't practiced. Our season opens Thursday and somehow I have to get a stand up and peak around just a little more without spooking all the bucks away. Life is just a beesh sometimes. I have the climber so I don't really HAVE to hang a stand. But I doubt it's going to be cool enough to feel like lugging a 25 pound climber too far while carrying a bow, pack, water yada yada yada. Oh well, I guess I'll make it. I may run out at mid day Tuesday and hang a stand for opening day. Len and I picked the tree Saturday. OF course, it's all a crap shoot anyway. The deer are all still hanging out in the corn that's planted on 3 sides of our property. They certainly aren't in the woods yet. I did see 6 Saturday on the lawn and could have stuck a little one on a crop damage permit but choose to pass. I just ain't ready for this. I'll shoot every day for the next 3 and I should be alright. Like I say, everything tonight was a guaranteed kill, so at least I remember how to do it.[&:]

Dont feel bad, you are not alone. I dont feel like I'm ready either. I do have some stands up, just not all of them. Just keep working at it, you will get there.

I second that, and one with a great sense of humor as well.

I haven't shot my bow since March or so (actually, I rarely shoot from November-September)..and I have very tight groups when I've shot so far this year. I'm not one to practice a whole lot, b/c it seems to me like I don't need to.

Your ready. I was coming down Wed but looks like that hurricane will have something to say about that. I was going to see if you wanted to do a walk around Wed with me but it looks like that won't happen. If we don't hook up before Thur and your in there Mon and/or Tue and Wed pick me out a spot will ya? See ya on Thur for sure but maybe Wed. Looks like Thur evening will be the 1st hunt if this storm tracks the way they say it will now.

See, I"m NOT ready. I haven't even looked at the long range weather. Heck, I don't even know what it'll be tomorrow. I'm just not into it. I'll put you in a tree.[8D] Do you want to see anything???[8D][&:] Most of the same old spots have lots of traffic. I have to pack sometime for a drive to NY Friday afternoon for a wedding.[:@][:@] Maybe I'll come down sick.[8D]

Just because you are not ready for opening day doesn't mean you will not be ready to take to the woods a bit later in the season.

Don't worry about it David. I am sure you are the type of person who will do what needs to be done at this point to be ready for the season opener. Truth be told I haven't had much time to practice either. Between both jobs and the family I rarely have time to pick up my own bow....even though I am always working on everyone elses'.

RE: I'm just NOT ready.

I hear ya davidmil. I haven't had much time either. I only have 2 stands hung (out of 8) and haven't hardly had time to shoot. Like you though, when I do get time to shoot, I shoot well. I just hate that there seems to be less and less time each year. My original goal was to be shooting at least 3 times a week once daylight savings time changed. LOL....yeah right.[&:] Between coaching baseball all year, and church, the job, and trying to keep up around the house....well, like I said...I hear ya.

I'm sure you will be fine, and many of us others that are in the same boat will too. It's just a little frustrating sometimes...I know exactly how you feel. At least I have a few more weeks before the season starts...although my schedule isn't looking much better.

Good luck :D

They say shooting a bow is like riding a bike. Once you got it you got it. As far as the hunting part, just get out there in a tree where the traffic is and your hunters instict will kick in and do the rest. Good Luck!!

I'm guessing as much as you've been at this sport over the years, you don't need much to be ready to make the shot. I know you'll come thru when needed.

It's all in your head. Look at it this way; your muscles are well rested, and you are ready. Confidence is the key!;)
