have you bought this year??? and by gimicks i mean any new idea or product that has a very large ad campaign or following by people. What did you think about it and did it work?

so far this year i've bought

a thermacell: which works great exactly like promised
a scentcheck antimicrobial and antiscent shirt: not sure about the
anitimicrobial part but it breathes very well.
bug proof 3-d camo: the camo works great but the bugproofness is iffy
at some points.

i bought the primo's can..i have heard excellent things about it, but yet to hunt with it so i'll let ya know how i like it.........

Nothing this year really though I made my own STS system to see if it really worked or not.

Over the long term the biggest gimmick I bought was probably that scrape dripper that works on temperature. What a waste of money.

it's a mosquito repellent that uses a butane heater to heat a repellent pad and keeps mosquitos like 15ft away. the think works great and it isn't very expensive.

I bought some misc. Dead Down Wind products this year. We'll see I guess.

yeah i didn't realise that it was antimicrobial until after i bought it. is there any special way to wash it and do you need cover scent with it?

I just scent wash and use scent wafers. Having TSC blinds this year should help. Try licorice(sp) soap. Doesn't seen to spook the deer at all. They seem to actually be a little curious about it. I was suprized that they actually walked towards me within 10ft. Weird???????? I can't afford the gimicks. All our money go towards improving our food plots. I will invest in trail cams. Any ideas on that????

I bought a new safety harness vest. You know, one of those climbing system vest. I already had one that worked just fine. I just wanted the one they call "The Professional" series that's made of mesh material. Just trying to lighten the load and make it cooler in warm weather. SO it's not exactly a gimmick, but I already own one so it's a "Why in the heck did you buy that" thing-a-ma-jig. The answer of course, "I just had to have it. I needed it. The old one may break because it's old".[&:][8D] I also bought a new camo outfit Friday. Did I need it ...NO! Will it help me shoot a deer...> NO! I just had to buy the "NEW" pattern from Skyline. DUHHHHHHhh.

Hmmmmm.... I bought a small HS Strut 5-in-1 deer call that doesn't sound very good. You take it apart and move a small rubber band on the reed for a fawn, doe, doe grunt, young buck, and buck grunt. But it sounds rather nasal and tinny for some reason. Therefore, I don't use it anymore. I have Primos "Li'l Can" which sounds a lot better.

I don't really get into the latest gimick or the newest hottest trend on the market, other than broadheads, which I look at and read reviews on. If one piques my interest, I"ll go out and buy it to see if it really performs as claimed.

Edit: Oh yeah, the biggest gimick that makes me laugh? A rattle bag of wood. Duh!!!! You just paid X-number of dollars for a bunch of wooden sticks?!? :eek:

I bought carbon EVERYTHING man............socks, underwear, pants, jacket, boots, hat, nose and ear plugs, eye patches, gloves.........you name it and I bought it carbon. Then I bought an antimicrobial sleeping bag to cover me from head to toe in case the carbon doesn't work (which would just be silly) but better to be safe then sorry I guess. I bought 10 gallons of UV wash to be sure nothing I own is glowing like a neon sign like in those ads they show in the 50 magazines I subscribe to that all shuffle the same articles around the always positive product reviews. I will be chewing gumoflage for sure so I don't render all that carbon and antimicrobial stuff useless (even more so anyways). I also will be wearing the camo under armour even though I have no idea why you need an under garment to be camo........who cares right??.......I mean if it costs $60 it HAS to be good right? This year I have added that homing signal device to my arrows and also have the string spool as a back up because we all know tracking deer the old fashion way is just stupid. I have 4 deerview mirrors on my stand just in case a deer tries to sneak up on me.........one pointed straight down in case I don't hear him climbing my tree........one straight up in case I get attacked by the treetops......and 2 looking behind me, I know 1 is enough but I figure a backup deerview mirror is something everyone should own. I have roughly 100-150 gallons of Hot-Chase-Steamin'-Standing-Estrous-69-Code Red, White, Blue, Green-Love Potion #9-XXX Buck Lure. I figure that will be enough for the rut. Another 25 gallons of pre rut stuff and the same for post rut.........can't forget the All Season stuff.........not to mention the food scents and last but not least I bought up every drop of sheep dung mixed with water I could find on the shelves (The only bad part is I don't know which bottles it's in........could be one.........or all of them) I have every bleat, grunt and rattle bag on the market. They all say they sound exactly like the real thing yet they all sound different so I figure I will try them all just to be safe..........if that doesn't work I will just put them all in a bag and slam it up against the tree a few times for a combo effect. I have the newest............and I mean NEWEST and BEST camo pattern out there. It just came out 3 minutes ago and makes all other camo obsolete.........in fact anyone not wearing this camo will not only get spotted by deer but they will gather just yards past your weapons range and mock you for hours by pointing their hooves and laughing their butts off. It is called Realtree-Advanced-Mossy-Timber-Valley-Pine-Grove-ASAT-Predator-Leafy-Grassy
-Snowy-Twiggy-Ghost-River-David Copperfield-Stevie Wonderfully awesome camo. It actually has a switch on it and if anyone has ever seen the monster from the movie Predator you know how sweet this camo really is..........the only bad part is that my vision is now infared so I hope the deer don't cover themselves in mud. I think I am all set.............and fortunately EVERY product I bought can be restored to "like new" condition simply by placing it in my household dryer ;)

T-4 turbo nocks- couldn't tell one bit of difference group wise when I was using a drop away, now that I'm using a WB it just doesn't even make sense.
( I was suckered in by all the hype on AT)

FOB's - some sort of miracle circular nock fletching replacement gizmo similar to the full sized turbo nocks. Really screwed with my nocking point and no way in hell it's work with a WB rest.

I bought a Thermacell and an STS system and I have been very happy with both. The thermacell works just as advertised and the STS made my bow quieter and keeps my string from over traveling and hitting my watch band.

so far this year i've been good...i bought a pop up blind, a deer sled, and a portable roof/blindbut that's it...usually by this point i have TONS of new stuff....patting myself on the back..:D
but to be honest i'm gettin' a new stand, the newvest harness, and a backpackwhichwill hold my bow and my gun...justhate shopping/spending my money so i have no motivation.
