Which one?
 

Which broadhead should i shoot between these 2. Rocket steelhead 100gr in either the xp or original or the rocket sidewinder. Im producing right at 59.5 lbs of energy out of my bow. Not interested in any other heads just these 2. Thanks again for your help.

Why are you only interested in these two broadheads? There are several better broadheads out on the market.

I like and have used both. In fact, the regular Steelhead is probably my "go to" head each year. I will probably have one on come opening day. The XP model looks equally good. I prefer the slightly shorter cutting diameter and much shorter ferrule of the Steelheads.

No, I have not. I meant there were much better broadheads out there meaning that you could get a great fixed blade broadhead for half the price. I have notshot anymechanical heads, nor do I plan to. I just stated my opinion, which was not fit for this discussion.

zak123 There are indeed great fixed heads out there and i do shoot them at times. I just prefer expandables over fixed. As for picking these 2 heads, i have narrowed my selections down to the sidewinder and steelhead thats the main reason.

If I were choosing between those two in the 100 grain weights the sidewinder would win. I like the design of the steel head better but only on the 125. IMO the 100 grain head has the tips of the baldes far too close to the tip of the furrel which does not give the tip a chance to burry into the hide before the blades start to deploy. I just worry about the head kicking off on a quartering shot with the 100 grain steel head.


But to be perfectly honest with you I wouldn't shoot a mechanical head if I were only producing 59 foot pounds of energy. At 30 yards the arrow will only have about 54 foot pounds of ke. YOu will probably be ok but I would rather NOT take the chance.

I've used a sidewinder on 2 deer when shooting 65#& 70#ke. Both passthru's. Not sure if 59.5 would be too little or not, but the steelheads sure have a strong following and would do you well I'd think.

IMHO the sidewinders are a 1 hit wonder. They do a great job, but all 3 I flung were junk after the kill. One was a miss[8D]and it went into mud/dirt hit a root and was heavily bent. The two that went through deer were 1 bent, 2 blades boogered up real bad & tip had a ragged edge.

The steelhead has a steel ferrule, so you know it should always be good to go.
